Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) is inviting applications for selecting highly motivated candidates to join as junior research fellows (JRF).
PRL is a premier national research institution under the aegis of the Department of Space, Government of India.
The broad areas of ongoing research activities in PRL are Astronomy & Astrophysics, Solar Physics, Space & Atmospheric Sciences, Atomic & Molecular Physics, Optical Physics, Astrochemistry, Theoretical Physics, Geosciences, and Planetary Sciences.
The premier organisation is also known as the ‘cradle of space sciences.’ The candidates selected as JRF will be joining PRL in July 2020.

Physical Research Laboratory Vacancy 2020 information is being provided for the sake of candidates’ convenience. The vacancies are related to JRF positions in various science disciplines. They are listed below:
Astronomy and Astrophysics
Candidates from Physics, Astrophysics, Applied Physics, Space Sciences, Instrumentation disciplines are eligible to apply.
Solar Physics
Candidates from Physics, Applied Physics, Space Sciences, Astrophysics disciplines are eligible to apply.
Space and Atmospheric Sciences
Candidates from Physics, Applied Physics, Space Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences Climate Science/Climate Change studies, disciplines are eligible to apply.
Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics
Candidates from Physics, Applied Physics, Electronics, Chemistry, Geology, Geophysics, Chemical Engineering disciplines are eligible to apply.
Geosciences
Candidates from Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Geophysics, Biology, Oceanography, Marine Science, Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science disciplines are eligible to apply.
Planetary Science
Candidates from Physics, Chemistry, Geochemistry, Geology, Geophysics, Applied Physics, Planetary sciences disciplines are eligible to apply.
Thermal Physics
Candidates from Physics, Applied Physics, Astronomy disciplines are eligible to apply.
Physical Research Laboratory eligibility
Candidates willing to apply must be a master’s degree holder in science or engineering with a 60% pass marks.
Those candidates expecting their Master’s degree by August 2020 are also eligible to apply, subject to having secured at least a first-class (60%) or equivalent grade up to the last semester.

Applicants must also be qualified CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) JRF/LS [December 2018/June 2019/December 2019] in Physical Sciences/Chemical Sciences/Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences.
Or, applicants can also be qualified Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) [GATE 2018/GATE 2019/GATE 2020] in Physics/Geology and Geophysics/ Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences/Chemistry.
Even those who are qualified in Joint Entrance Screening Test [JEST 2020] in Physics can also apply. Please note that if the applicant possesses more than one score in either GATE or NET then the best among them has to be provided in the application.
Method of selection
Physical Research Laboratory related JRF posts will be filled through an interview that will be held on 4, 5, 8 and, 9 June. The interview for Physical Research Laboratory Vacancy 2020 will be held at PRL campus in Ahmedabad.

Points to remember
Candidates applying for JRF under Physical Research Laboratory can call call 079-26314869/4867 during 10.00 am to 5.30 pm or write to us at ‘acad AT prl.res.in‘ in case of any difficulty.
The applicant must be 28 years of age as on the last date of submission of application. A valid e-mail ID and Mobile Number are mandatory for registration. E-mail ID should be kept active.
Status of successful registration will be sent to the registered e-mail ID. Candidates are requested to fill-in the online Application Form with utmost care, as no modifications will be allowed after its submission.
Request for any change in the Application Form shall not be entertained under any circumstances after submission of the application form.
All the JRFs will be required to undergo two semesters of course work after joining PRL. Only on the successful completion of the course work will the JRFs be allowed to join a research group to start work towards Ph.D. degree.
For Junior Research Fellows (JRF) the fellowship amount is Rs.31,000 per month and for Senior Research Fellows (SRF) the fellowship amount is Rs.35,000 per month.
On the completion of two years, the JRFs will be reviewed and based on the recommendations of the review committee and approval of the Director, PRL, the JRF may be awarded the position of SRF with an enhanced fellowship as per rules.
