Overview

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is the national-level entrance exam for admission into NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, and other government-funded technical institutions across India. It also serves as the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced. The exam is conducted in two sessions — January and April — by NTA. JEE Main tests candidates in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (for B.E./B.Tech) or Mathematics, Aptitude, and Drawing (for B.Arch/B.Planning).

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject. Candidates appearing in Class 12 in 2026 are also eligible. There is no age limit. A candidate can attempt JEE Main for 3 consecutive years.

Exam Pattern

Computer-Based Test (CBT). B.E./B.Tech Paper: 90 questions (75 to attempt) — 30 each in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. Each section has 20 MCQs (+4/−1) and 10 numerical value questions (5 to attempt, +4/0). Total marks: 300. Duration: 3 hours.
