JEE Advanced is the gateway to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Only candidates who qualify JEE Main (top 2,50,000 rankers) are eligible to appear. The exam tests conceptual understanding and analytical thinking in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at an advanced level. IITs rotate the responsibility of conducting JEE Advanced each year.

Eligibility Criteria

Must be in top 2,50,000 qualifiers of JEE Main 2026. Must have been born on or after October 1, 2001 (5-year relaxation for SC/ST/PwD). Must not have been admitted to any IIT previously. Maximum 2 consecutive attempts. Must have scored at least 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST).

Exam Pattern

Two papers — Paper 1 and Paper 2 — each of 3 hours. Both are compulsory. Questions include MCQs (single correct, multiple correct), numerical answer type, and matching type. Each paper has Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Negative marking varies by question type. Total marks vary each year (typically 360 per paper).
