Ph.D admissions in IIT Gandhinagar have been announced. Eligible candidates can apply for that. IIT Gandhinagar also offers a start early Ph.D. Candidates who are looking towards undertaking research in subjects related sciences, humanities and engineering can make use of this opportunity.
Ph.D research areas
The PhD admission is being taken up for the courses namely Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering
Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Cognitive Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Earth Sciences. The other subjects are Electrical Engineering, History, Language & Literature, Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science Psychology, Social Epidemiology, Sociology.
Candidates willing to take up Ph.D in humanities and social sciences subjects must be a post graduate in relevant discipline with 55% pass marks or 5.5 CPI/CGPA. The same for SC,ST and PD category candidates is 50% and 5.0.
Even B.Tech/M.Tech/M.Sc candidates with a pass percentage of 60 or CPI/CGPA of 6.0 can also apply for Ph.D in courses related to humanities and social sciences. The same for SC,ST and PD candidates are 55% or 5.5 CPI/CGPA.
For engineering courses research application candidates must be a 60% pass mark holder (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10 in BE/BTech/ME/MTech/MS in relevant discipline.
For sciences, candidates must be a post graduate in relevant discipline with at least First Class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10.
Even BE/BTech with at least 60% pass marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST) CPI/CGPA can also apply.
Important dates
Candidates can apply now by clicking the link ‘https://www.iitgn.ac.in/admissions/phd’ Last date for the same is 10 April. Applied candidates will get notified tentatively by 21 April. The date for written test and interview will be from 8 to 11 May tentatively. Application has to be made online.
All applications must be submitted online. If you are applying for more than one discipline, please submit a separate application for each discipline. After successful submission of the application form, you will receive an application number and a link to download the application form.

Selection procedure
Candidates who have applied will be shortlisted and notified. Shortlisting is done based on academic records of the candidate, statement of the purpose. Those who have received the notifications will have to attend an interview or a written test.
Admissions however are offered based on the applicant’s performance in the interview/written test and keeping in view the academic performance also of the applicant.
A written test will also be supplemented if found necessary. The written test is generally based on the topics related to general aptitude (logical reasoning, analytical and numerical ability, etc.), writing skills, and basic courses of various disciplines at undergraduate level.
The candidates who do not qualify in the written test need not appear for interview. The reserved category candidates will be given due relaxation in cutoff marks as per the norms.
For example, in case of total railway fare of Rs.1400/- the candidate will be reimbursed Rs.650/-. It is required to produce evidence (railway ticket) in support of the claim.
Application fee
Candidates willing to apply must pay the application fee of Rs 100 if they are from SC,ST and PD categories. Same for others is Rs 200. Candidates can send their queries at ‘academics@iitgn.ac.in‘
