NEST 2021: For great science enthusiasts, apply till 15 July
NEST 2021 exam registrations are open till 11:55 pm of 15 July and candidates interested in studying science courses can apply.
The earlier planned exam date for NEST 2021 is changed. The new date will be announced soon.
Applicants who pass the exam can study five year integrated MSc in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.
The five year integrated programme is offered at National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER, Bhubaneswar) and University of Mumbai’s Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS, Mumbai).
About the institutions
Both NISER and UM-DAE CEBS are autonomous institutions established by the Department
of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, in 2007.
NISER is an off-campus centre of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) and all academic programmes of NISER are affiliated to HBNI.
Although CEBS is a DAE institution, it is physically located in the Kalina campus of University of Mumbai and the degrees to students are awarded by Mumbai University.
These institutes were started with the mandate to provide high quality teaching in basic sciences by a faculty of distinguished scientists embedded in a vibrant research environment, and to create a national pool of scientists ready to take up research challenges in the frontiers of basic and applied sciences.

About the programme
The integrated MSc programme at these institutes follows a semester–based course structure and continuous assessment within a flexible and innovative academic curriculum, exposing the students to research early in the programme.
The placements of the graduated students from NISER and CEBS provide testimony of success of this initiative.
Applicants from SC/ST/PwD categories can have 55 percent pass marks in their qualifying exam.
The subjects in plus-two must be maths, physics, chemistry and biology.
Students who have passed plus-two in 2019 or 2020 can also apply.
Even those who are appearing for their plus-two exams in 2021 can also apply.
Age limit
Candidates willing to apply for NEST 2021 must be born on or after August 1, 2001 if they are from General or OBC category.
The age limit is relaxable till five years for applicants from SC/ST and PwD categories.
How to apply
The procedure to apply for NEST 2021 is online. Applicants can register for the test at the official website ‘https://www.nestexam.in/’
Once the webpage downloads upon clicking the above link, candidates have to click ‘Apply Online’ button and take up registration to obtain username and password.
Applicants have to provide their email id and other required information during registration.
After the registration is complete, the information containing the username and password and the link to login will be sent to candidate’s email id.
Applicant has to go to his email id and open the link and login using the obtained username and password and start applying for NEST 2021.
Candidates can provide the required information and upload the needed documents and pay the registration fee and submit the application.
Candidates who feel there are mistakes in the fields – name, date of birth, roll no/registration no, mobile number and email can also change them.
The above fields are pre-filled in the application form, information from the registration is brought and imposed on them.
However, applicants who feel there should be corrections in the above fields can send an email to ‘nest2021helpdesk@gmail.com’ or call 022-61306277 with their user id, name, email address used for registration and inform about the changes that are to be made.
The registration fee
NEST 2021 registration fee for male candidates from General/OBC/General EWS categories is Rs 1200.
The same for candidates of SC/ST/PwD, Supernumerary J&K categories and female candidates is Rs 600.
The fee can be paid using debit cards or credit cards of all major banks or net banking facility.
Documents
Candidates have to upload a photograph of them while filling the application for NEST 2021.
Also, scanned image of their signature must be uploaded.
The size of the photograph and scanned image of their signature must be less than 80 kb.
Important dates
The registration for NEST 2021 began on February 24.
The last date to submit application was earlier April 30 and that has been extended till 15 July.
NEST 2021 exam was supposed to happen on June 14, now that date has been changed and a new date will likely to be announced in due course.
The admit card was to be available for download through June 14 now that also is likely to be changed as the exam date has been changed for NEST 2021.
The result for NEST 2021 was to be announced on June 30. Now this too will be changed.

Exam pattern
NEST 2021 is a computer based test and has four sections with multiple choice type questions.
The marks for each section is 50 and questions in these sections will be related to maths physics, chemistry and biology lessons taught at plus-two levels.
The syllabus can also be downloaded from NEST 2021 website ‘www.nestexam.in’
Two questions in each section are designed to test the general scientific knowledge of the student rather than specialised knowledge of the subject.
These two questions, which may not be exactly from the stated syllabus, would require knowledge of class X level Science subjects.
