Lava design contest is all about designing the next Indian smartphone. Indian mobile handset brand Lava is inviting applications from students of B.Tech/B.E./B.Des/M.Des students and professionals to take part in a contest of designing mobile phone.
Students and working professionals can register for the contest till 9 July. The registration was made open on 2 July.
Speaking about Lava design contest Tejinder Singh, Head- Product, Lava International said our country stands at a very important juncture right now.
‘We envision India to be the next global manufacturing hub. We have the potential to be self-reliant too.’
Through this Lava design contest they want to give the youth of this country a platform to play their part in this nation building process.
‘We invite them to use their creative skills and bring fresh perspectives to our design methods.’ The registration for the Lava design contest is open from 2 to 9 July.
Students who are willing to take part in Lava design contest can visit the website ‘https://www.lavamobiles.com/design-in-india-challenge/’ from 2 to 9 July and register for the contest.
The Lava design contest is open both to students and professionals. Once they enter into the above website, there are seperate buttons for students and professionals to register for Lava design contest.
Students can click ‘Students’ button in the red background and professionals can click the button ‘Working Professional’ to go ahead with the registration for Lava design contest.
Students while registering for Lava design contest must provide information about their college name, their qualification, the current year of their study, email id and others along with information related to their college’s training and placement office details.
On the other hand professionals must provide their phone number, email id, team name, their qualification, current organisation they are working for and their total experience while registering for Lava design contest.
A team participating in the Lava design contest will can have one member or a maxium of three members. The students who wish to take part in Lava design contest must be from branches of Fashion and lifestyle accessories, Industrial design, product design and transprotation design wings of B.Des/M.Des courses.
B.Tech/BE students willing to take part in the Lava design contest must be from Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Information Technology Engineering.
Lava design contest will three rounds namely Ideation, Prototyping and Finale.

In the first round (Ideation) of Lava design contest, participants will get access to a problem statement for which the teams have to submit their solution.
All submissions would be evaluated by a panel consisting of senior leaders of Lava International. The top five teams would be shortlisted for the Idea & Prototype development round.
The second round (Prototyping) of Lava design contest will have top five teams that are shorlisted from the initial round.
These five teams will have to submit functional Smartphone prototypes/plan and associated sub-assemblies.
During this time, the teams will build on their ideas, can seek guidance from technical panel of Lava International and refine their prototypes/applications.
The final round or round three (The Finale) is where contestants have to present their idea and to a jury panel comprising of senior leadership of Lava.
There are attractive prizes also. The winning team in Lava design contest will receive a cash prize of INR 50,000, a Lava goody bag and a pre placement interview for design engineer profile at Lava.
The first runner up will get a cash prize of INR 25,000, a Lava goody bag and a pre placement interview for design engineer profile at Lava.

While finalist teams of Lava design contest will get appreciation certificate from Lava International Limited. And all participants will get participation certificate from Lava International Limited.
Sources further say, timelines for the contest are the start date for Lava design contest was 2 June, the last date to register is 9 July.
The first round of the contest will happen on 10 July. Last date for submission for Round 1 is 31 July. Results for the first round will be declared on 4 August.
The second round of Lava design contest will take place between 5 to 25 August. Final presentation with regards to Lava design contest is 26 August and winners will be announced on 27, 28 August.
