About the exam
Candidates who wish to study various masters programmes in IITs have to pass JAM 2022 with the required score.
Every year one of IITs or IISC takes the task of conducting JAM. IISC Bangalore took up the responsibility of conducting JAM for 2021.
Individuals who pass this exam can obtain admission into courses namely – M.Sc. (Two-year), Joint M.Sc.‐Ph.D., M.Sc.‐Ph.D. Dual Degree, M.Sc.‐M.S. (Research)/ Ph.D. Dual Degree, and other Post‐Bachelor Degree programmes at IITs.
Candidates who pass JAM 2022 would get to study above mentioned degrees in subjects like maths, physics, chemistry, geology, biotechnology, mathematical sciences, chemical sciences and much more.
Point to remember
The scores of JAM 2022 will also be used by IISC Bangalore for admission into integrated PhD programmes offered by it.
IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Mandi, IIT Palakkad, IIT Patna, IIT Roorkee, IIT Ropar, IIT Tirupati and IIT (BHU) Varanasi.
Individuals can also choose to study at Centrally Funded Technical Institutions like
NITs, IIEST Shibpur, SLIET Punjab as these too use JAM 2022 score for admission into post graduate programmes offered by them.
More about JAM 2022
JAM 2022 will have seven test papers namely – Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Geology (GG), Mathematics (MA), Mathematical Statistics (MS) and Physics (PH). A candidate can appear for either one or two test papers.
The score of JAM 2022 will be valid for one year.
The test will be in objective type with three types of styles.
The objective questions will be asked in three styles namely – multiple choice questions, multiple select questions and numerical answer type questions.
Candidate should have aggregate marks of at least 55% or 5.5 CGPA out of 10 for General/OBC (NCL)/EWS category candidates and 50% or 5.0 CGPA out of 10 for SC/ST and PwD category candidates.
Important dates
The registration for JAM 2022 will start on August 30 2021 and last date to submit applications will be October 11 2021.
Admit cards for the exam will be available for download from January 4 2022.
Exam will be held on February 13 and the results will be declared by March 22, 2022.
Applicants can visit the official website ‘https://jam.iitr.ac.in/’ from 30 August onwards and start submitting applications.

Individuals have to login using the username and password and start applying for JAM 2022.
Applicants have to provide the required information, upload needed documents and pay the registration fee and submit the application form.
Registration fee
The fee is Rs 750 for SC, ST and PwD category candidates and women applicants if they choose to write one paper in JAM 2022.
The same is Rs 1050 if they choose to write two papers in JAM 2022.
Candidates of other categories have to pay Rs 1500 if they want to write one paper. The same is Rs 2100 if they wish to write two papers.
Point to remember
The above mentioned fee amount could likely be changed due to many reasons.
Applicants are advised to visit the official website and refer the information brochure there for the exact amount of registration fee.

Exam pattern
The question paper of JAM 2022 will have 60 questions totally and they are divided into Section 1,2 and 3.
Section 1 will have 30 questions and other two sections will have 10 and 20 questions respectively.
The first and second section of JAM 2022 will have multiple choice questions and third section has numerical answer type questions.
The marks for three sections are 50, 20 and 30 and total marks are 100.

Physics
It has the topics such as mathematical methods, kinetics theory, thermodynamics, modern physics, oscillation waves and optics, electricity and mechanism, mechanics and general properties of matter, solid state physics, devices and electronics and modern physics and others.
Geology
This section will include geomorphology, the planet earth, structural geology, paleontology, stratigraphy, petrology, economic geology, applied geology and mineralogy and others.
