IIT Madras is inviting applications for its BS (Electronic Systems) course and last date to apply is 27 August 2023. IIT Madras launched this 4-year program to meet the fast-emerging demands of the indigenous electronics industry.
The program of IIT Madras is designed keeping in mind industry-specific requirements and skill sets. The curriculum is designed in consultation with industry experts.
This newly launched BS in Electronic Systems at IIT Madras has received a great response in the first round of applications, which closed on 25th June 2023.
Over 1800 applications were received from all over the country. Out of these, close to 1200 are regular entry-based candidates and the remaining are from JEE entry mode.
The regular entry-based candidates will have to go through a Qualifier process, whereas those qualified for JEE Advanced can get direct admission to the program.
Entry
Highlighting the entry to this Program, Prof. Boby George, Faculty, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Madras, and Coordinator, BS in Electronic Systems program, IIT Madras, said, admission to the program is through an in-built qualifier process, JEE is not a requirement to join the program.
Candidates who apply will be provided access to four weeks of content taught by IIT Madras faculty and the qualifier exam will be based on this content alone.
Sufficient support will be provided to candidates in this period in the form of discussion forums and live sessions, said Prof Boby George of IIT Madras.
Content, tutorials, doubt-clearing sessions and assignments will be online, while quizzes, exams and labs will be conducted in-person. The lab courses will be in-person at IIT Madras campus.
This program of IIT Madras aligns with the India Semiconductor Mission to make India a global hub for electronics manufacturing and design.
The semiconductor industry is a major contributor to the global economy, employing millions of people and generating billions of dollars in revenue each year, and is emerging as a key industry in India, say IIT Madras sources.

Elaborating about the program, Prof. S. Aniruddhan, Faculty, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Madras, and Coordinator, BS in Electronic Systems program, IIT Madras, said, “The program is rigorous but flexible.
The students will be continuously guided throughout the program to get the required knowledge and skills. The program is taught from fundamentals and there will be sufficient support provided to students to learn effectively in the form of live doubt clarification sessions, expert sessions and discussion forums.
The program also features multiple exits and students can get a Foundational Level Certificate, Diploma or the BS degree, said Prof Aniruddhan from IIT Madras.
Prof Aniruddhan of IIT Madras further said There is huge potential for manufacturing in Electronics not only for India’s domestic needs but also in the form of exports to the global market.
By acquiring fundamentals and essential skills, graduates of this BS (Electronic Systems) program will be able to serve in multiple industries, said Prof Aniruddhan of IIT Madras.
Students can also get internship/ apprenticeship opportunities with various companies where they will get to work on real-life projects. ‘These internships can be offline, in-person or hybrid, and may vary from 3-8 months.’

About IIT Madras BS Electronic Systems
IITM is offering this four-year online Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electronic Systems to meet the significant and growing demand for skilled graduates in the electronics and embedded manufacturing sector in India.
The program also features multiple exits and the students can get a Foundational Level Certificate, Diploma or the BS degree. The program comprises a mix of theory and laboratory courses that will be taught by IITM faculty and experts in the industry.
As part of the courses, students will be provided with recorded video lectures, reading materials, weekly assessments, tutorials and interactive doubt-clearing sessions, all of which can be done online.
The laboratory courses require the students to be mandatorily present in-person at IITM for about two weeks every semester.
