IIM Calcutta alumnus is chancellor of great University of Allahabad
IIM Calcutta alumnus Ashish Kumar Chauhan has been appointed the Chancellor of University of Allahabad.
President of India Ramnath Kovind appointed the IIM Calcutta alumnus on the top post. Ashish Kumar will be serving on the post for a period of five years.

Ashish Kumar Chauhan is an alumnus of 26th batch of Post Graduate Diploma in Management and is currentlt the Managing Director and CEO of Bombay Stock Exchange.
IIM Calcutta alumnus is best known as the father of modern financial derivatives in India due to his work at NSE.
He is one of the founders of India’s National Stock Exchange (NSE) and was instrumental in setting up India’s first fully automated screen-based trading system and the first commercial satellite communications network.
The path-breaking frameworks including Nifty index and NSE certifications in financial markets are his creations.
Mr Chauhan had earlier held the role as the President and CIO of Reliance Group and was also the CEO of the Mumbai Indians cricket team in its formative years.

He was awarded the ‘Distinguished Alumni’ award by IIM Calcutta in 2016 for his extraordinary contribution to India’s financial sector.
Commenting on Mr Chauhan’s landmark achievement, Professor Subir Bhattacharya, Director-in-Charge, IIM Calcutta said the announcement of Ashish Chauhan’s appointment as the Chancellor of University of Allahabad is a matter of immense pride for all of us at IIM Calcutta.

Welcoming the students
IIM Calcutta welcomed its incoming MBA batch with its annual city meet.
External Relations Cell of IIM Calcutta organised the event virtually via Zoom across Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata.
A total of 480 participants attended these meets, including students from the incoming batch, current batch and distinguished alumni.
Traditionally, these annual city meets are held physically across India for the incoming batch where new students get an opportunity to interact with current students, renowned alumni, and their future batch mates.
It also gives them an insight into the life that awaits them at Joka.
Each city had multiple hosts from the current batch who welcomed all the participants and encouraged conversations.
They shared their journey at Joka and the life lessons they learned while pursuing their courses and how that has shaped them as not only professionals but also as people.
This was followed by an orientation to IIM Calcutta and its rich history, exemplary academia, and legendary alumni through a presentation.
Apart from this, for further personal interaction, breakout rooms were created where students could ask their questions in a closed group environment.
Sudhansh Jayant and Vidisha Misra, ER Cell Secretaries at IIM Calcutta said they are thankful to all the students, their teammates and esteemed alumni for making these city meet a huge success with their presence.
It is our endeavor to ensure that the incoming batch experiences the culture at Joka and these city meets provide a sneak peak to the kind of enriching experience they are to endure during their time at Joka, Sudhansh and Vidisha, secretaries of ER Cell at IIM Calcutta.
Startup ecosystem
IIM Calcutta turned centre of attraction when the startup ecosystem got a boost there through Clarion Call 4.0.
Clarion Call 4.0 was the fourth edition of the startup business contest which witnessed a participation of more than 1000 startups.
Competition was ogranised by IIM Calcutta Alumni Association, Mumbai (IIMCAA-M). The contest was programme managed, hosted and conducted by IIM Calcutta Innovation Park (IIMCIP).
IIMCIP developed contest portal very efficiently facilitated the contest from application to evaluation stage.
The registrations for the competition went on from 4 March to 8 April.
More than 1000 startups applied for taking part in the contest by IIM Calcutta Innovation Park.
IIMCAA roped in PwC as a process and knowledge partner to evaluate and score these entries and bring them down to the Top 50 finalists.
These Top 50 were evaluated through a multiple rounds of pitching sessions by a 25-member jury panel that consisted of entrepreneurs, investors, industry leaders and the Top 20 finalists were identified.
These Top 20 finalists have been connected to investors.
About eight of these top 20 startups competed in a grand virtual live event held on May 1.
The special jury picked the top three startups.
The winner is – Homepecked eMarketplace Services (https://www.homepecked.in).
The first runner-up was StoryMirror
Infotech (https://storymirror.com/) and second runner-up was Solus AI (https://www.solus.ai).
These winners have won cash prizes worth Rs 10 lakhs.
