GIM celebrates great 32nd foundation day

GIM (Goa Institute of Management) commemorated its 32nd Foundation Day in a grand manner.

The celebrations turned special, paying tribute to its founder, Fr. Romuald D’Souza, whose vision laid the groundwork for one of India’s leading B-schools.

Venue

The event, held at GIM’s Sanquelim campus, was graced by Fr. S. George, S.J., Director of XLRI Jamshedpur, as the Chief Guest, where Father D’Souza had served as a director from 1982-89.

Bestowing honours

Faculty, staff, students, and alumni gathered to honour the extraordinary legacy of Fr. D’Souza, a Padma Shri awardee and pioneering educationist who founded GIM in 1993 after transformative stints at XLRI Jamshedpur and XIM Bhubaneswar.

Impact

Speaking at the event, Fr. George reflected on Fr. D’Souza’s enduring impact of human-centred leadership.

He said, authentic leadership must come with courage, compassion, connection, and conscience; just like the one we saw in Fr. Romuald.

Academic Block at Goa Institute of Management

In a symbolic gesture to mark the occasion, the institution named its Academic Block building as ‘Fr. Romuald D’Souza Auditorium.’

This naming coincides with the centenary year of Fr. D’Souza’s birth, whose 100th birth anniversary will be observed on 20 December 2025.

Dr. Ajit Parulekar, Director of the institute said, what we are today — a globally ranked, socially responsible business school — rests on the foundation laid by Fr. Romuald D’Souza.

This year, we are not just marking 32 years of the institution, but we are also celebrating the values that Fr. Romuald stood for, he said.

Fr. Romuald D’Souza served as Director of Goa Institute of Management until 2004 and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2010 for his contribution to higher education in India.

His quiet strength, discipline, and commitment to human-centred education continue to inspire generations.
