What is CLAT?
CLAT is expanded into Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) and is a national level entrance exam conducted to provide admission into law courses at graduate and post graduate level. Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLU) conducts the exam.
The law courses are offered by 22 national law universities around the country. This national level law admission test is conducted once every year and CLAT 2026 is meant for 2026.
The consortium was established on 19 August 2017 with the aim of improving the standard of legal education in India and justice system through legal education. There is more to it when it comes to CLAT 2026 registration.
CLAT 2026 registration eligibility
The eligibility criteria for taking up CLAT 2026 registration depends on the type of the course candidate is trying to gain admission into.

Undergraduate
Candidates focused on undergraduate programmes of law through CLAT 2026 registration must have passed plus-two from any stream.
The pass percentage must be 45 for candidates from General category. The same for SC/ST/PwD category candidates is 40.
Students of plus-two who would be appearing for their qualifying exam also can take up CLAT 2026 registration.
However, these candidates have to produce the proof of passing plus-two exam by the time of admission.
Postgraduate
Applicants willing to seek admission into post graduate law courses through CLAT 2026 must be an LL.B degree holder or holder of its equivalent examination with a minimum of 50 percent pass marks.

Those from SC/ST/PwD category candidates have to pass the qualifying exam with a pass percentage of 45 at the minimum.
Even candidates appearing for their qualifying examination also take up CLAT 2026 registration. However they have to produce the proof of their passing the qualifying exam at the time of admission.
CLAT 2026 Registration Fee
The CLAT 2026 registration fee or registration fee is Rs 4000 for General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI candidates. The same for SC/ST/PwD/BPL category candidates is Rs 3,500. CLAT 2026 registration fee for applying for post graduate courses is also the same.
CLAT 2026 Documents Submission
Candidates have to upload the below mentioned documents while submitting CLAT 2025 application:
# Candidates have to upload a passport size recent photograph of themselves with a plain background.
# Signature of the candidate
# Category certificate if applying under SC/ST/OBC
# Relevant certificate issued by competent authority if you are applying if candidate is P.W.D
# Relevant certificate issued by competent authority if the candidate is coming under BPL category

Exam Pattern
The pattern of exam is different for graduate and postgraduate admissions.
Graduate exam
The duration of CLAT 2026 for graduate admission is of two hours duration and has 120 questions. Each question has one mark. A wrong answer will lead to deduction of 0.25 mark.
The subjects are English Language, Current Affairs, including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques.
There is negative marking, 0.25 Mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
Post Graduate exam
The duration of CLAT 2026 exam for post graduate course admission is for two hours and will have 120 questions.
Each question in CLAT 2025 exam will be of one mark. A wrong answer will lead to deduction of 0.25 mark each.
Questions will be from subjects – Constitutional law, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract, Torts, Family Law.
Questions will also be asked from Criminal Law, Property Law, Company Law, Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law and Labour & Industrial Law. There is negative marking, 0.25 Mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

CLAT 2025 registration process
The procedure to take up CLAT 2026 registration is is online. Applicants can visit the official website at ‘https://consortiumofnlus.ac.in/clat-2026/’ to apply for the exam.
1. The URL mentioned above must be typed into the browser and submitted to allow the website to download.
2. Once the website is ready, candidates can read the information about the exam and then click the button REGISTER. The button can be seen on the right side below the Login.
3. Clicking the above button will open a form, where candidates can fill the basic information and register and create an account.
4. Post creating an account, candidates can come to the same webpage ‘https://consortiumofnlus.ac.in/clat-2026/’ and enter their username and password below the Login and get into the website to start taking up CLAT 2026 registration, filling the application form.
5. Pay the CLAT 2026 registration fees, upload the documents and submit the application.
Admit Card
The process to obtain admit card for CLAT 2026 is online and candidates have to visit the official website ‘https://consortiumofnlus.ac.in/’
Those who have successfully completed CLAT 2026 registration can alone download admit card. The process is mentioned below for the sake of the applicants:
1. Type the URL mentioned above in the browser of the computer and then submit it to allow the website to download.
2. Once the website is ready, candidates can click the link for admit card.
3. Clicking the link may open another webpage with a different URL.
4. When the page with another URL opens, candidates can provide their application number, date of birth and other required details and submit them to view the admit card.
5. Once the admit card is visible, it can be downloaded and then a printout can be taken.
