Chest must also be equally proportionate, should witness an minimum expansion of five centimeters. Eye sight of the candidate must be 6/6 6/9 – Uncorrected without Glass and 6/6 6/6 – Corrected with Glass. The recruitment process for ACs takes place in two phases. The first phase comprises the preliminary test which will be of objective type and will have questions related to Mental Ability, Cognitive Aptitude, Picture Perception and Discussion (PP and DT).
However, the qualification varies in accordance with the branch one decides to make an entry as Assistant Commandant. One can enter ICG as Assistant Commandant in General Duty, General Duty (SSA), Technical (engineering and electrical), Law and Commercial Pilot Entry (CPL) (SSA) sections.
While qualification for ACs in General Duty and General Duty (SSA) is already mentioned, candidates making an entry as a pilot must have atleast 12th pass with physics and maths as subjects and must also have a valid commercial pilot license issued by Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Career Assistant Commandant – Candidates who want to apply for ACs post in technical wing must have a engineering degree with pass percentage of 60 percent or a pass in Section A and Section B exams of Institution of Engineers (India) in engineering branch and electrical branch. They can also have a three year diploma course with an aggregate of 60 percent.
Application for ACs post in Law unit must have a degree in law with a minimum pass percentage of 60 percent. The degree must be three years in duration after graduation or five years after plus-two. The candidates who are being appointed on short-service (SSA) will serve for a period of eight years, this can be extended to 10 year and is further extendable upto 14 years.

Career Assistant Commandant – Applicants have to remember that they have to complete their graduation with required pass percentage by the time they are applying for the exam. The pay package of the AC is Rs 56,000 on promotion he will become Deputy Commandant ( Rs 67,700), further levels of hierarchy are Commandant (JG, Rs 78,800), Commandant (Rs 1,18,500), Deputy Inspector General (Rs 1,31,100), Inspector General (Rs 1,44,200), Additional Director General (Rs 1,82,200) and Director General (Rs 2,05,400). This is an all India service and candidates recruited as ACs are liable to serve anywhere in India.
