Amrita Chennai Wins 1st Place at Amaravati Quantum Valley Hackathon 2026

A remarkable milestone in innovation and cybersecurity was achieved by the Chennai Campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham as its student team secured 1st Place at the Grand Finale of the Amaravati Quantum Valley Hackathon 2026. The prestigious Amrita Chennai hackathon, organised by Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education, was hosted at Dhanekula Institute of Engineering & Technology, Vijayawada, on 7 February 2026.

This national-level competition brought together some of the brightest young minds in quantum computing and advanced cybersecurity from across the country. Standing out among tough competition, the team from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE–Cyber Security) demonstrated technical excellence, innovation, and real-world relevance.

The Amrita Chennai winning team comprised six final-year students who showcased exceptional teamwork and technical depth, such as:

Under the guidance of Dr S. Baghavathi Priya, the students translated complex quantum concepts into a practical, functional prototype, an achievement that reflects both academic rigour and hands-on learning.

💡 The Winning Solution – AQVH911

The team addressed Problem Statement AQVH911 by developing a basic simulator for Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) using the BB84 Protocol.

The BB84 protocol is one of the foundational algorithms in quantum cryptography, designed to enable secure communication by leveraging the principles of quantum mechanics. Unlike classical encryption methods, QKD ensures that any attempt at eavesdropping can be detected, making it a future-proof solution in the era of quantum computing.

What set Amrita Chennai’s solution apart was:

• Clear conceptual demonstration of quantum principles

• Accurate simulation of the BB84 protocol

• Strong focus on cybersecurity applications

• Practical implementation aligned with emerging quantum-ready systems

The project successfully bridged theoretical quantum physics concepts with applied cybersecurity practices—an approach that impressed the jury for its clarity, technical rigour, and forward-looking relevance.

The awards were presented by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, adding significant prestige to the recognition.
