UGC Scholarship 2020, last date to submit applications for renewing and obtaining fresh scholarship offered by UGC is extended till 30 November.

UGC Scholarship 2020 is all about the four different types of scholarships being offered by University Grants Commission (UGC).

It is to recollect that higher education regulator invited applications from regular and full time students for availing the four types of scholarships under UGC Scholarship 2020.

1. Indira Gandhi PG Scholarship for Single Girl Child (SGC)
The first one under UGC Scholarship 2020 is Indira Gandhi PG Scholarship for Single Girl Child (SGC).
This scholarship is introduced with an objective of promoting woman education and subsequently pave way to woman empowerment.

The other aim of the this scheme under UGC Scholarship 2020 is to support post graduate education of single girl child in postgraduate courses only.

Admission Open in SRM for 2025

Girl students up to the age of 30 years at the time of admission in first year of PG courses are eligible.

The scheme is applicable to such single girl child who has taken admission in regular, fulltime first year masters degree course in any designated university or a post graduate college.

Admission to PG course in distance education mode is not covered under the scheme.

Admission Open in LPU for 2025

Amount of fellowship provided under this scheme under UGC Scholarship 2020 is Rs.36,200 per annum for a period of two years only – that is – full duration of a PG course.

No other additional grant will be payable in lieu of hostel charges and medical charges in this scheme under UGC Scholarship 2020.

2. PG Scholarship for University Rank Holder candidate (URH)
This is the second scheme under UGC Scholarship 2020 and is provided with a motive of nurturing those students who show excellent performance at undergraduation with a motive of encouraging them to take pursue post graduation.

The purpose of this scheme is to attract talent for pursuing post graduate studies besides
strengthening the basic subjects at Undergraduate level.

The awardees, under this scheme, can pursue their postgraduate programme in any area of specialization in any institution of higher learning in the country.

The target group for this scheme under UGC Scholarship 2020 are the first and second rank holders at undergraduate level and who are admitted in any postgraduate course would be awarded the scholarship.

Even in this scheme under UGC Scholarship 2020 distance mode of education will not be considered.

The undergraduate courses identified under this scheme of UGC Scholarship 2020 are Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Social Sciences, Commerce and Languages.

The duration for which the financial assistance would be provided in this scheme under UGC Scholarship 2020 is two years.

3. Ishan Uday Special Scheme for North Eastern Region (NER)
This is the third scheme under UGC Scholarship 2020 and is aimed at providing equal opportunities in higher education for students from north-east region in our country.

This scheme under UGC Scholarship 2020 aims to enhance the Gross Enrolment Ration (GER) in the north-eastern region of our nation.

Students who are natives of north-eastern region of our country and whose parental income is not more than Rs 4.5 lakh per annum from all sources can focus on this scheme under UGC Scholarship 2020 for availing assistance.

Also, candidates aiming to avail assistance under this scheme of UGC Scholarship 2020 should have passed 12th standard and should have secured admission in first year of any degree course which either general or technical.

As usual students studying courses under distance learning cannot avail assistance under this scheme of UGC Scholarship 2020.

Even transgender candidates can also apply under this scheme. The reservation shall be followed as per Government of India norms.

UGC Scholarship 2020

This scheme under UGC Scholarship 2020 aims at providing financial assistance to 1000 SC/ST candidates.

Candidates who are pursuing studies in professional subjects through correspondence or distance education mode cannot apply for the scholarship.

The tenure of this scholarship is for a duration of two or three years depending on the tenure of the post graduation course.

This scheme under UGC Scholarship 2020 does not however cover the extension of study period.

Candidates selected for the award of PG scholarships (under ME/MTech.) shall be provided scholarship of Rs.7800 per month for the duration of the PG scholarship.

For other courses, the amount of scholarship paid will be Rs.4500 per month.

The financial assistance in this scheme shall be payable to the awardee from the date of joining the first year of the post graduate course during the selection year.

Students who have been admitted in the recognised educational institutions and are satisfying the eligibility criteria can apply for financial assistance to undertake studies through UGC Scholarship 2020.

Students can visit the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at ‘https://scholarships.gov.in/’ and apply for UGC Scholarships.

Soon after they click the above url, a new page downloads and below the banner they can see three buttions titled ‘Central Schemes,’ ‘UGC/AICTE Schemes’ and ‘State Schemes’

They can click the second button ‘UGC/AICTE schemes’ to know about the four schemes of UGC Scholarship 2020 described above.

Soon after clicking ‘UGC/AICTE schemes’ button is clicked and when new page appears, applicants can click button ‘University Grants Commission – MHRD’ to know about each of the schemes under UGC Scholarship 2020′

How to apply
Students willing to apply for UGC Scholarship 2020 must visit the NSP at ‘https://scholarships.gov.in/’ and click the ‘New Registration’ button located next to the banner.

Soon after ‘New Registration’ button is clicked, applicants must provide their name, mobile number, email id, bank account details, scholarship category, identification details like Aaadhar Number.

In case if the age of the applying students is less than 18 years, the registration and subsequent application form filling must be done by his or her parents or guardians.

They have to keep the following documents while regisrtration:

1. Educational documents of student

2. Student’s Bank account number and IFSC code of the bank branch
Note: For pre matric scholarship scheme, where students do not have their own bank account, parents can provide their own account details.

However, parents account number can only be used against scholarship applications for maximum two children.

3. Aadhaar number of the Student

4. If Aadhaar is not available, then Bonafide student certificate from Institute/School and Aadhaar Enrolment ID or Scanned copy of Bank passbook

6. If Institute/School is different from domicile state of the applicant, then Bonafide student certificate from Institute/School.

Post registration, they can login and start applying for UGC Scholarship 2020.

Also candidates who are already registered can login directly and commence the process of applying for the scholarships.

UGC Scholarship 2020

The NSP has been open since 1 September this year for receiving fresh applications and also renewal applications in connection with the four schemes under UGC Scholarship 2020.

The last date to submit applications online is 30 November and last date to verify applications by institutions of students and also for re-submission of defective application is 15 December this year.

UGC requests students to submit applications for UGC Scholarship 2020 well in advance so that institutions can also verify them and take up rectifications.

UGC sources further say that the institutions can verify the applications by 10 December so that there is enough time to take up rectification work in the applications that are in need of corrections.
