NMC Invites Applications for Establishing Medical Colleges & Increasing MBBS Seats for 2025-26
NMC Fee for establishment of medical colleges in MBBS seats 100 is Rs 20 crore for 6 year tenure.
Applications for establishment of new medical colleges intending to offer undergraduate courses and increase in MBBS seats for the academic year 2025-26 have been invited by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Registration has begun and the last date to submit the application form through the official website, nmc.org.in, is January 5.
The assessment process for granting permission to set up medical colleges and increasing MBBS seats will broadly include evaluation of application form and inspection of institutions.
All the applications for MBBS and PG medical courses will be considered on various successive levels. The institutes have to furnish self-attested essentiality certificate (EC), Consent of Affiliation (CoA), application fees, bank guarantee, relevant letters such as status of MBBS course, letter of permission, AEBAS data report, etc., preferably with digital signature.
The cost for setting up a medical college in India has increased according to the new fee structure. Setting up medical colleges with 50 MBBS seats now costs Rs 15 crores for 6 years. For starting a new college with 100 MBBS seats, the applicant will have to pay Rs 20 crore, and an extra amount of Rs 5 crores would be charged if applying for another 50 seats.
For both UG as well as PG medical studies, NMC will audit within the colleges for at least one or two working days. They will also examine the infrastructural, academic medical education quality, strength of the faculty, the data on AEBAS, clinical material, and clinical performance, as well as finance conditions prevailing in the college regarding fulfillment of the latest NMC standards. During the time, they might also hold personal interviews with the staffs as well as students.
Apply for UG application
For establishing a new medical college for undergraduate courses and an increase in MBBS seats, applicants would apply online. There would be no offline or hardcopy form submitted to the NMC.
After filling up the registration form through the official portal, the applicant will receive a unique ID with a one-time password on the registered email ID. They will be required to sign-in using the unique ID and change the password. Now, click on the ‘Start Application–Establishment of new under-graduate medical institution /Increase of UG seats” icon. Fill in the form with all necessary details and submit before the deadline.
Conclusion
Establishing a medical college or adding more MBBS seats in India is a rigorous process which is followed by NMC guidelines. New fees charged, detailed application procedures, and inspections highlight quality medical education and infrastructure. Interested applicants have to submit forms on or before January 5, 2025, via the official NMC portal. Institutions could thus contribute to healthcare infrastructure in the nation while fulfilling the demands of the future medical professionals.
