NTA conducted JEE Mains 2020 from September 1 to 6 after much hiatus. It is worth knowing that JEE Mains is conducted twice every year.
JEE Mains in January was conducted smoothly, however things took a different turn and JEE Mains to be conducted in April this year got unduly postponed.

There were demands from various quarters for postponing the exam. Certain sections have also filed a petition in nation’s top court seeking postponement of NEET and JEE Mains also.
However, they were all dismissed and then the exam went as per the earlier fixed schedule in September.
Fear of contracting the infection kept many students restricted to their homes preventing them from attending exam.
At many centres, exam halls were seen half empty and this was the proof that not many considered the atmosphere safe to come out and attend the exam.
Sources say, only about 74 percent of the students who registered for the JEE Mains (April/September) appeared for the exam.

The data brought out by the government has proved this.
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said while 8.58 candidates have registered for the exam, about 6.35 lakhs have appreared for the test.

The exam was supposed to be conducted about four months ago but was delayed owing to outbreak of corona virus.
Though dates were decided at a later stage, JEE Mains could not be conducted as lockdown got extended repeatedly leaving little scope for conducting the exam.
