IIT Madras professor gets great distinguished fellowship
IIT Madras professor R.I. Sujith has become the first Indian to be awarded the Distinguished Fellowship of International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV). The fellowship is awarded to individuals with distinguished careers in acoustics or vibration.
It is interesting to note that IIT Madras professor is an alumnus of IIT Madras and is currently the D. Srinivasan Chair Professor at Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Madras.
It cooperates with scientific societies and with other international organizations to increase information exchange. IIT Madras professor works on both experiments and modelling.
Some of the key research interests of IIT Madras Professor R.I. Sujith with a major impact in the filed include:
Ø Thermoacoustic instability in practical gas turbine engines and rockets

Ø Application of dynamical systems theory and complex systems theory to thermoacoustic instability
Ø Obtaining early warning (precursors) for the onset of thermoacoustic instability
Ø Smart control strategies using complex systems theory
IIT Madras professor elaborated on how IIAV Distinguished Fellowship would boost his research. Professor Sujith said this fellowship has given his group greater recognition and visibility.
I plan to collaborate actively with IIAV in various activities including their international conferences, workshops, seminars and publications, said IIT Madras Professor.
The IIAV is a wonderful international body, and I have participated in their conferences in the past, said IIT Madras professor. It is a great honour to be recognized by such a body that has given so much to the international acoustics community. I am humbled by this recognition, said IIT Madras professor.
IIT Madras professor has over 360 technical publications (including 186 refereed journal publications), 12 patents and has also written a book on ‘Thermoacoustic Instability.’
