IIT Kanpur and BISAG-N Collaborate to Develop Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) Technology for Education and Public Safety
Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), a ‘Department of Electronics and Information Technology’ (DeitY) initiative and the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N) have agreed to collaborate for Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) technology development for the improvement of educational content distribution and services as well as for implementing disaster management and public safety messages. IIT Kanpur will spearhead technological innovation efforts in the D2M area as a key knowledge partner.
A memorandum of understanding was signed by Manindra Agrawal, director, of IIT Kanpur with TP Singh, director general of BISAG-N in the distinguished presence of guests and industry leaders. Some of the key dignitaries who attended the meeting include Parag Naik, EVP of Tejas Networks, Mohd Kasim, a member of the UGC committee on educational media, and Prashant Maru, AVP of Tejas Networks.
IIT Kanpur and BISAG-N have signed an MoU to further D2M Technology that enhances the distribution of educational content and offers better services in disaster management. This collaboration promises to bridge the digital divide by revolutionizing public communication in India.

Saankhya Labs then merged with Tejas Networks, was also associated, and he mentioned its early years, along with IIT Kanpur, in the development of the D2M technology. He talked about the current trials that are happening in Delhi for D2M and went on to discuss the device ecosystem for delivering the technology, stating that once there, it would easily help UGC to reach excellent education content to students, teachers, and citizens in very effective ways. “The potential of this technology to transform digital education in India is tremendous,” he said.
