GATE 2021: Can apply for the great exam from 14 September onwards
GATE 2021, candidates can start applying for it from 14 September onwards. GATE 2021, also known as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2021 will be conducted from 5 to 14 February next year.
The notification for the well-known exam has also been released. The notification for GATE 2021 can be accessed at the official website ‘https://gate.iitb.ac.in/’
Even certain reputed public sector companies consider GATE score while undertaking recruitment for certain posts.
GATE 2021 is being organised by IIT Bombay. Directors of all 23 IITs have decided at a virtual meeting held in the recent past that the onus on conducting GATE 2021 would lie with IIT Bombay.
Every year a prestigious educational institution among the IITs takes up the responsibility of conducting GATE on a rotational basis.
It was on 16 July that IIT Bombay made the official website for GATE 2021 go live.
This is the for the first time when GATE 2021 is being conducted for a longer duration, keeping in mind the existing COVID-19 situation.
GATE 2021 will be the first examination which will witness relaxation in the eligibility criteria and also introduction two new subjects.
The total number of subjects in GATE 2021 will now go up to 27 as two more have joined the list.
While one subject is Environmental Science and Engineering (ES) and Humanities and Social Science (XS).
Director of IIT Bombay Subhasis Chaudhuri said he was delighted at aspect of creating opportunities for candidates who belong to humanities and social sciences area.
If any Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) is considering to recruit a candidate from humanities and social sciences stream through GATE, including that as one of the subject in GATE 2021 will prove helpful to the students coming from Humanities and Social Sciences stream, he said.
There is another great point to GATE 2021, students applying for the exam. Candidates writing GATE 2021 will be able to choose two subjects papers from the prescribed set of combinations.
Sources from IIT Bombay said allowing candidates to choose two subjects will enhance the opportunity to study in the inter-disciplinary areas unlike in the past where applicants could choose only one subject.
Another fine point with regards to GATE 2021 is that candidates who are in the third year of their graduation can also now write the exam.
GATE-2021 will be open for applying from 14 September and the last date for registering for the exam is 30 September.
Applicants can register for GATE 2021 till 7 October with payment of late fee. The last date to change category, examination centre and paper is 13 November.
Candidates seeking change of examination centre for GATE 2021 have to pay an additional fee. The examination will be held from 5 to 14 Friday next year in two shifts.
The first shift for GATE 2021 will from 9 am to 12 pm and the second shift will be from 3 pm to 6 pm. The results will be declared online on 22 March 2021.
While the above are the dates fixed as of now by GATE Committee, it also reminds that there are chances for these dates to undergo a change owing to COVID-19 situation.
While under rare circumstances the exam dates may be postponed, the information regarding this will be announced on the official website.
To be on the safer side, candidates for GATE 2021 are requested to check the official website for the exam regularly for any updates.
Admit cards with regards to GATE 2021 can be downloaded from the official website of the exam a couple of weeks before the commencement of the examination. Sources say the hall ticket will be available for download 8 January 2021.

The link will be made available on the official website at the appropriate time. Candidates must remember that no hardcopy of the admitcard will be sent to the candidates residence by post.
Candidates have to remember that applying for GATE 2021 is completely an online process.
Candidates have to visit the website of GATE for next year which is ‘https://gate.iitb.ac.in/’ and click the appropriate link which will be highlighted from 14 September onwards.
Applicants have to register first and obtain the required credentials first. Post procuring the credentials, candidates can start applying for the exam.
After paying the application fee, the registration process for GATE is complete. The printout of the final output can be taken and preserved for future use.
The registration fee for GATE is Rs 750 for female candidates in the regular period of 14 to 30 September. If they apply in the extended period of 1 to 7 October then it is Rs 1250.
For SC,ST and PwD category candidates the fee is Rs 750 in the regular period and Rs 1250 in the extended period.
The same for candidates of general category is Rs 1500 and Rs 2000 respectively. This fees for GATE is the actual amount without levy of processing fees and service charges.
The eligibility criteria for applying for GATE 2021 is that candidates must have completed any degree from a recognised educational institution in India from engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce or arts.
