Course on Glass science and technology in great December
Course on Glass science and technology is being offered by IIT Kharagpur with a motive of providing broad overview about glassy materials to the participants.
The course will be held from 14 to 18 December at Seminar room of Materials Science Centre located on IIT Kharagpur premises.
The Course on Glass science and technology will inform how the glass is formed or what governs their transition to a glassy state.
Course on Glass science and technology will also inform about their structures in the atomic and microstructural level and how to engineer with this micro structure.
That is not all. Course on Glass science and technology will also focus on commercial production of glasses with a detailed discussion about the integrated technological aspects.
Finally, the Course on Glass science and technology will deal with the mechanical properties of glassy materials and various ways to alter them so as to meet required property specifications.
At the end, the Course on Glass science and technology will shift focus to certain special types of glassy materials like bulk metallic glass, glassceramics, borosilicate glass, non-oxide glass, chalcogenide glass, optical fibres.
The duration of the Course on Glass science and technology will be 30 working hours (6 hours per day).
The topics that will be dealt as a part of Course on Glass science and technology are Introduction to glass, Glass transformation behaviour (Enthalpy vs. temperature diagram, glass transition).
The other topics that will be taught as a part of Course on Glass science and technology are Principles of glass formation, Structures of glasses, Phase transformations and microstructure development in glass, Crystallization of glasses.
Phase separation in glasses, Glass manufacturing: Principles and processes, Viscosity of glass forming melts, Viscoelasticity, Mechanical properties of glass, Strengthening of glasses (heat strengthening, thermal tempering, ion exchange, chemical strengthening etc.), Statistical nature of fracture of glasses, Thermal shock and annealing of thermal stresses, Special glass and glass materials, Laboratory visits, Practical experience of glass melting and Characterization of glass are also the topics that will be dealt as a part of Course on Glass science and technology.
Even BE/BTech in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, MSc in Physics, Chemistry and Material Science can also apply for taking part in the Course.
