The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, in collaboration with the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE), has unveiled an exciting opportunity for young innovators through the Youth Ideathon 2024. This national-level competition aims to ignite the entrepreneurial spirit among school students, encouraging them to think creatively and develop innovative solutions for various societal challenges. The theme for this year’s Youth Ideathon is “iStartup a Good Thing for India.” This theme underscores the importance of entrepreneurship in driving positive change and economic growth within the country. By engaging students in this competition, the initiative seeks to nurture a generation of future leaders who can contribute to India’s development with their innovative ideas and entrepreneurial skills.
The Youth Ideathon 2024 is designed as a five-stage competition, with the initial stages being conducted online. The competition is open to all school students across India, divided into two categories: junior (Class 4 to Class 8) and senior (Class 9 to Class 12). Students will participate in teams of 3 to 5 members, all from the same school. The grand finale of the competition is scheduled to take place on October 6, 2024.
In its previous edition, the Youth Ideathon attracted over 1.5 lakh students from more than 8,000 schools. This year, the organizers aim to surpass these numbers, targeting the participation of over 2 lakh students from 10,000 schools across the country. The competition’s expansive reach highlights its significance and the growing interest among students in entrepreneurship and innovation.
Dr. Biswajit Saha, Director (Skill Education & Training) at CBSE, emphasized the crucial role of entrepreneurship in the New Education Policy 2020. He stated, “Entrepreneurship is an essential pillar of the New Education Policy 2020, and the Government of India has taken several steps to build entrepreneurial thinking in all students. The Youth Ideathon platform allows students to think bravely and showcase their talents.”
Youth Ideathon 2024 is supported by various partners who play an important role in cultivating entrepreneurial talents. Small Business Development Bank of India (SIDBI) Deputy CEO Mamta Kumari highlighted the impact of these initiatives. “Events like Youth Ideathon 2024 play an important role in strengthening the entrepreneurial spirit in the minds of young people. Through our efforts, we have created more than 200 internship opportunities for school students and provided them with hands-on experiences in various fields such as technology, web management, content creation, digital marketing and student support.
ThinkStartup Founder Shivani Singh-Kapoor also drew attention to this statement and said: “If you need to raise entrepreneurs, you must catch them young, leverage their strengths and help them find the power to innovate and reach the Ideathon aimed at entrepreneurship. “To empower future generations by bringing together the ideas of many students with incubation support.”
Ideathon Youth 2024 participants will receive certificates and the best teams will compete for up to 100,000 in incubation funds. Special recognition will be given to teachers, counsellors and schools who have contributed significantly. This comprehensive recognition format aims to encourage and reward all stakeholders in promoting entrepreneurial ideas among students.
