BTech Biotechnology and Bioinformatics: A great new course
BTech Biotechnology and Bioinformatics is the new course being offered at IIT Hyderabad. The new academic program will be provided by the Department of Biotechnology there. The course will also be called BTech in BT & BI.
It is interesting to note that industries from biotechnology and pharmacy sectors are witnessing a good deal of growth and taking that into account Department of Biotechnology at IIT Hyderabad is offering BTech Biotechnology & Bioinformatics.
This program will offer unique learning and exposure to critical topics in biotechnology and bioinformatics. To further enhancement of job opportunities, this program has a semester-long industrial project which will help students to gain industrial experience.

This course at IIT Hyderabad is a four year one and has eight semesters. There will be two semesters each year. The candidates have to study about 7 to 8 subjects in each semester.
Some of the subjects that would be taught are Environmental Chemistry, Modern Physics, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biochemistry and Microbiology. BTech Biotechnology and Bioinformatics also has Basic Bioinformatics, Introduction to bio-nanotechnology, Introduction to Life Sciences as some other lessons.
Procedure for selection
Students have to apply for JEE Mains exam and pass it with a score that falls under the top 2.5 lakh ranks on the national level. Post passing JEE Mains with required qualifying marks, students have to apply for JEE Advanced and pass it with the cutoff marks to be eligible for counselling for IIT admissions.
JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) will conduct the counselling for IIT admissions, students can choose BTech Biotechnology and Bioinformatics during the counselling sessions.

Selection of students will be on criteria like performance in JEE Advanced, performance in the qualifying exam, choice of the course by candidates and availability of seats.
