NITK ECE Student Aathira G Menon Wins Prestigious C-DOT STAR Fellowship for Groundbreaking V2V Communication Research
Under C-DOT’s STAR programme, an NITK ECE student, Aathira G Menon is being awarded the amount of Rs lakh per year for two years. Aathira G Menon, an ECE student at NITK Surathkal, has been awarded a prestigious fellowship under C-DOT’s STAR program. Her research on V2V communication for 5G and beyond will shape the future of smart transportation systems.
ECE, NITK, Surathkal, research scholar Aathira G Menon has won a fellowship from the Centre for Development of Telematics, which is the telecom R&D center of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under their STAR program.
It awards fellowships to support students from top-ranked colleges under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) scoring below 20. NITK is the only NIT that secured this award.
STAR program offers an amount of up to Rs 6 lakh per annum for up to four years. The PhD scholar shall be mentored by leaders in research at C-DOT and shall be availed of lab facilities. This support will create opportunities for additional contributions toward the advanced communication systems that are driving the future of connected vehicles.
Under the mentorship of her mentors Prabu K and Shyam Lal, her research title was “Next-Gen V2V: Deep Learning-Driven Multipath Profiling and Vehicle Fingerprinting for Enhanced V2V Communication in Smart Cities” led by Aathira, which aims towards the improvement of vehicular applications for 5G and beyond 5G (B5G) technologies.

The aim of this study is to provide a way to achieve more efficiency in these systems so that they are not wasting existing resources on supporting upcoming innovations. Especially in the future of smart transportation, such as self-driving cars and intelligent traffic systems, this kind of research becomes essential because all the current challenges are addressed to develop communications between vehicles in a better way so that eventual technologies can be faster, smarter, and more reliable.
