The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024 is mired in controversy as candidates face challenges due to last-minute changes in exam centres. With just two days left before the exam, many aspirants have taken to social media to voice their concerns about being assigned exam centres far from their preferred locations.

The issue has garnered attention at the highest levels, with Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor writing a letter to Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, JP Nadda, highlighting the plight of the students and urging immediate action. Tharoor’s intervention, supported by other MPs, student organizations, and doctors’ associations, calls into question the fairness and logistical planning of the NEET PG exam, especially under the challenging monsoon conditions in India.

Candidates have been taking to social media with their worries about the last-minute revision of exam centres with just two days left before the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024. On August 11, the NEET PG 2024 exam will be administered by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). The health ministry has also been asked by several MPs, student organizations, and doctor associations to reconsider the NEET PG 2024 exam centre allocation. Because the reassigned cities are farther distant than their preferred options, aspirants are voicing discontent with them. The unfavourable monsoon season weather in India makes things harder for the contestants.

Shashi Tharoor emails JP Nadda about the mishandling of NEET PG

In the letter, Tharoor emphasized how many applicants will need to travel great distances—some by thousands of kilometres—to get to their NEET PG 2024 exam centres. The letter stated, “This situation is made worse by the current adverse weather conditions, challenges in obtaining travel tickets, a lack of reasonably priced accommodations, and safety concerns.”

According to Tharoor, given the reasonable amount of participants, there should be enough centres in every state for a national exam like NEET PG. This would allow students to take the test in places that are near their homes or places of education.

worries about the proposed two-shift exam, which calls for administering two distinct exams in two different shifts and normalizing the results. He contends that this method compromises the integrity of a national exam, which ought to be a single exam given all over the nation on the same day.

Furthermore, Tharoor cited rumours that the exam is now being held in fewer cities, which makes it harder for applicants to pass.

“Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor has written to Union Minister JP Nadda, urging urgent action on the NEET PG 2024 exam centre mismanagement. Candidates express concerns over last-minute changes and distant exam locations.”

Conclusion

The concerns surrounding the NEET PG 2024 exam centre allocation underscore the need for more thoughtful and student-centric planning for national exams. With candidates facing significant challenges due to distant and last-minute reassigned centres, the intervention by MP Shashi Tharoor brings hope for a more balanced and fair approach to future exam management. The response from the Health Ministry and the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) will be crucial in addressing these concerns and ensuring all candidates can take their exams without undue stress or hardship.
