The process to apply is online and candidates have to visit the website of NTA – National Testing Agency to apply for NEET UG if they are focused on graduation in medicine. Those keen on postgraduation have to visit the website of NBEMS – National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences to apply for postgraduate courses in medicine. Websites for NEET UG and NEET PG have to be visited and the registration links have to clicked and then account has to be created with a username and password. Post account creation, candidates can login and then start applying for the exam (NEET UG/NEET PG). The registration fee has to be paid and the application form has to be submitted. Applicants have to appear for the exam (NEET UG or NEET PG) and pass it with required qualifying marks to be eligible for the next phase which comprises counselling. The qualifying marks are the minimum marks, candidates have to score in the exam to be eligible for the next phase of admission. Score of the candidates must either be higher than the qualifying marks or equal to that. Qualifying marks are also known as cutoff marks, cutoff marks are released along the release of the results of the exam usually. Sometimes, they can be announced either before the result release of after that. Students who have qualified the exam (passing the exam with minimum qualifying marks) can download their score cards and take a printout of it. Candidates who have passed the exam can apply for counselling which takes places at national level and state level. Those who wish to join the medical institutions in All India Quota (AIQ) can apply at national level, those willing to join in state quota have to apply in state-level. The institution has to be chosen while they apply for counselling. Process of choosing the course and the institution to study that is called counselling. This procedure is conducted in more than one round, those who get a seat in the initial rounds can pay the fees and join the classes at the institution. And, individuals who do not get admission in the first rounds, can try in the subsequent rounds of counselling. Counselling for the national level will be conducted by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) which comes under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of Government of India. The same at the state level will be conducted by the authorities concerned of the respective state. Application for AIQ counselling has to be done on the website of DGHS, the same for the state quota has to be done on the official websites of the respective authorities of various states. The notification for counselling is issued after the release of results of the exam, after the notification is out the candidates can start applying for the counselling. The institution they wish to study has to be chosen while applying for the counselling. Selection will be done based on choice of the course by candidates, availability of seats in that course, demand for that course, performance in entrance exam and also in qualifying exam. For courses other than medicine offered by the institution, applicants can directly apply for them at the institution's website at the appropriate time every year. Once the notification is out, they can submit applications and follow the required process to get the admission. Those who get the admission can pay the fees and join the course.
