South Asian University Adopts CUET and JEE for Admissions in 2025-26
The South Asian University (SAU) has agreed to make the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for its undergraduate programs and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for engineering programs in the forthcoming academic year of 2025-26. However, the university is not ending its own entrance examinations for admissions.
SAU initiated its activities in India from the academic session of 2010. SAU is based in New Delhi and is sponsored by eight member states of SAARC. Its programs range from postgraduate and doctoral programs, spread across its different faculties of economics, computer science, biotechnology, mathematics, sociology, international relations, and law, among others.
The university launched BTech in Computer Science last year. This program is the only undergraduate programme offered at SAU. The student admissions to the BTech programme will be through their JEE Main 2025 scores.
CUET for South Asian University students, entrance test for international
“We felt from this year our university could also be part of the CUET pool as it will provide options to a larger number of students to choose SAU. However, as students from foreign nations can’t take CUET we will be conducting our own entrance as well, ” a senior university official told Careers360.
The university keeps 40% seats for students from SAARC nations, 50% for students from India and the rest 10% for aspirants from other countries.
Conclusion
The South Asian University has taken a significant step by adopting CUET and JEE Main for its admission process, especially towards increasing its reach and inclusivity, especially for Indian students. While maintaining its own entrance exams for international applicants, SAU ensures a balanced admission policy catering to its diverse student body. With its reputation for academic excellence and unique focus on SAARC collaboration, SAU continues to be a premier institution for higher education in South Asia.
