NPTEL IIT Madras invites applications 720 online certificate courses
NPTEL IIT Madras is inviting application for over 720 online certificate courses for January-April 2024 semester.
NPTEL is National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning and is an initiative from the Ministry of Education. It has opened enrolment for the January – April 2024 semester.
With over 720 courses across engineering, science, humanities, and management disciplines, NPTEL IIT Madras aims to provide advanced learning opportunities to over 30 lakh learners this semester.
Last date
The last date to enrol in these certification courses is 19th February 2024.
Interest Learners can enrol through the following links for the January 2024 Semester: NPTEL – http://nptel.ac.in/ (or) SWAYAM – http://swayam.gov.in/
Learners can enrol for free on the SWAYAM and NPTEL portals and take an optional certification exam for Rs. 1000. More than 2.5 crore learners have enrolled in NPTEL courses till date, say sources from NPTEL IIT Madras.
Importance
Highlighting the importance of these courses, Prof. Andrew Thangaraj, Coordinator, NPTEL IIT Madras said NPTEL has enabled affordable, certified, online education at scale and continues to be a pioneering initiative under the Ministry of Education.
We hope our expanded course catalogue will empower our learners to upskill themselves and boost their career prospects, said Prof Andrew of NPTEL IIT Madras.
As NPTEL IIT Madras enters its 20th year of operations and 10th year of offering certification, this semester marks an important milestone for India’s largest online learning platform.
Portal
Mr. Karan Bhalla, a ‘Domain Scholar’ and an Assistant Professor from Ludhiana, who has taken NPTEL Courses, said thanks to NPTEL IIT Madras and SWAYAM Portal for giving him and other learners a platform from where we can learn and explore more in our respective domains.

The best part of these courses is that we learn from IIT professors. As a professor, I share that knowledge with my students, he said.
New courses
This semester will see new courses in subjects like Research Methodology for Planning and Architectural Studies, Computational Genomics, Structural Vibration, Applied Statistical Thermodynamics, Games and Information, and Experimental Robotics, say sources from NPTEL IIT Madras.
NPTEL IIT Madras also offers select courses in partnership with ANSYS, enabling learners to earn industry-recognized badges on completing ANSYS innovation courses mapped to NPTEL’s curriculum.
NPTEL Toppers can earn ANSYS badges and showcase them in their professional network.
Completion
Ms. S.U Bhavana, an ‘NPTEL Star’ M.Sc student from Chennai, said completing NPTEL courses has translated into tangible career advancements, enhanced performance, and increased recognition.

Faculty
Over 66,000 faculty members from various educational institutes across India enrolled in NPTEL courses during 2023 as part of their Faculty Development Program, helping improve teaching standards in colleges across India, say sources from NPTEL IIT Madras.
NPTEL has also facilitated 321 internships and placements for NPTEL toppers at IITs and other institutions last year.
Mr. Siddharth Acharya, another ‘NPTEL Star’ Student from Chennai, said, “I secured an internship at Wells Fargo. My grades went up when I aligned my NPTEL courses with those in my college.”
NPTEL IIT Madras also offers fee waiver support through CSR partners. Over 1.52+ lakh learners from economically disadvantaged backgrounds have benefitted from the fee waivers.
While NPTEL comprises courses that follow the academic semester and curriculum and contain 30-40 hours of content to study from for each course, NPTEL+ is designed to complement this.
