JAM 2024 registration will start from 5 September and go on till 13 October 2023. Candidates can apply at ‘https://jam.iitm.ac.in/’ during these days. It is about admissions into post graduate courses in IITs.

Students willing to pursue postgraduation in science subjects in IITs can take up JAM 2024 registration. There are about 3000 seats in postgraduate courses in 21 IITs.

Schedule

JAM 2024 registration starts on 5 September 2023 and ends on 13 October 2023. Admit cards will be available for download from 8 January 2024 onwards.

Candidates who have taken up JAM 2024 registration successfully alone will be able to download the hall tickets and attend the exam on 11 February 2024.

Admission Open in SRM for 2025

Results of JAM 2024 will be declared on 22 March 2024. The score cards can be downloaded from 2 April 2024 onwards. The admission portal in connection with JAM 2024 will be open from 10 April 2024.

About the exam

The full name of the exam is Joint Admission Test for Masters and is popular as JAM. This is conducted once a year and is a national level test for admission into postgraduate courses in IITs across India.

Candidates have to pass this exam with required qualifying marks to be eligible for the admission into IITs.

They can also try for admission in non IIT institutions (NITs, IIEST Shibpur, SLIET and DIAT) with help of this score. They have to approach these institutions separately.

JAM 2024 will be a computer based test and will be conducted in seven test papers – Biotechnology, Chemistry, Economics, Geology, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, and Physics.

Candidates can either choose to appear in one paper or two test papers. This exam is conducted by one of IITs located in India by taking turns. JAM 2024 is being conducted by IIT Madras.

Who can take up JAM 2024 registration?

Individuals who have passed graduation in the relevant discipline from a recognized educational institution can take up JAM 2024 registration.

The graduation must be in the same discipline in which the candidates desire to pursue postgraduation.

Even those who have appeared for the final exams of their qualifying degree and are waiting for results or those who are about to appear for the final exams can also take up JAM 2024 registration.

However, these people have to pass the exam and provide a proof for it by the time the admission process begins. If they donot produce the proof, admission may be cancelled.

Foreign nationals

Even foreign nationals can take up JAM 2024 registration. For admission, foreign nationals are required to satisfy the rules and regulations of the Admitting Institute pertaining to foreign students. For further details, they are advised to contact the concerned Admitting Institute.

JAM 2024 registration

1. The URL mentioned above must be typed into the browser and submitted to allow the website to download.

2. Once the website is ready, candidates have to click the link for registration to create an account with a username and password.

3. After the account is created, candidates can login and start applying for the exam.

4. They can provide the required data, choose the exam center, upload the documents.

5. Applicants can check for any errors in the information provided and correct them if any.

6. After rectification of errors if any, candidates can submit the application.

Documents

Candidates have to upload, their photograph, image of their signature, Community certificate (if applicable) and PwD certificate (if applicable) while taking up JAM 2024 registration.

Registration fee

JAM 2024 registration fee is Rs 900 for a single paper for Female applicants and SC/ST/PwD category candidates. For all others, JAM 2024 registration fee is Rs 1800 per paper.

The same is Rs 1250 for women applicants and SC/ST/PwD category candidates if applying for two test papers. For all others JAM 2024 registration fee is Rs 2500 if applying for two test papers. Details are present in tabular format below:

JAM 2024 registration

Admit card can be downloaded from the official website which is accessible at ‘https://jam.iitm.ac.in/’ The process to obtain the admit card is mentioned below:

1. The URL mentioned above must be typed into the browser and submitted to allow it to download.

2. Once the website is ready, candidates have to click the link for the hall ticket.

3. Clicking the link may open another webpage and the candidates have to enter their application number, date of birth and other required information.

4. The above details must be submitted to obtain the hall ticket.

5. After the hall ticket is visible, the candidates can download it and take a printout of it.

Exam pattern

The questions have to be answered in a duration of three hours. Medium of the exam will be english. There will be a total of 60 questions which are framed in three sections – Section A, Section B and Section C.

Section – A contains a total of 30 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) involving 10 questions of one mark each and 20 questions of two marks each.

Each MCQ has four choices out of which only one choice is the correct answer. Candidates can mark their answer by clicking one of the choices.

A wrong answer will result in negative marks. For each wrong answer to 1 mark questions, 1/3 mark will be deducted and similarly for each wrong answer to 2 marks questions, 2/3 mark will be deducted.

Section – B contains a total of 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) carrying two marks each. Each MSQ is similar to MCQ but with the difference that MSQ may have one or more than one correct choice(s) out of the four given choices.

The candidate is awarded full credit only if all the correct answer(s) and no wrong answers are selected. Candidates can mark the answer(s) by clicking the choice(s).

There is no negative marking or partial marking for MSQ. Section – C contains a total of 20 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions involving 10 questions of one mark each and 10 questions of two marks each.

For NAT questions, the answer is a signed real number, which needs to be entered using the virtual numeric keypad displayed on the monitor.

No choices will be shown for NAT questions. There is no negative marking for NAT. In all sections, questions not attempted will result in zero mark. There is no provision for
partial marking.

The candidates are required to select the answer(s) for MCQ and MSQ type questions using the mouse. The answer for NAT questions must be entered using a mouse on a virtual numeric keypad. The keyboard of the computer will be disabled.

The exam centres for JAM 2024 will be located across the country. Candidates have to choose them while taking up JAM 2024 registration. Applicants have to exert caution while choosing test centers.

Choice of Examination Cities: JAM 2024 Examination will be conducted in eight zones. The names of these eight zones with the list of zone-wise Examination Cities given above. Candidates must specify their first, second and third choice of cities at the time of taking up JAM 2024 registration.

When the choice of first city is made, then the zone gets determined and the candidates will be able to choose the second and third choice city only from the same zone.

Note: There may be an addition or dropping an examination city or town due to operational constraints – a notification will be made on the JAM 2024 website.
