IITM AA launches great mission to put million smiles in 2yrs

IITM AA has launched ‘Mission Million Smiles’ initiative to create a positive impact on the lives of at least one million people in India and the rest of the world in two years. The Association seeks to channelize the energy, resources and commitment of its alumni in achieving this objective.

It is interesting to note that IITM AA has a total of 53,825 members, including 22,179 Under Graduates and 31,646 Post Graduates.

Key objectives
IITM AA president Krishnan Narayanan highlighted the key objectives behind the new mission. ‘We are inspired by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat address last year on the importance of alumni associations to the nation.’

IITM AA president further said IITM AA ecosystem, comprising over 50,000 alumni, students and faculty, has the potential, knowledge and skills, and resources to become a powerful change agent.

Initiatives
The societal impact initiatives of IITM AA will focus on areas such as Science, Technology and Innovation interventions for the nation, mentoring students, water and sustainability, and Women in STEM.

‘The three pillars of focus for IIT Madras Alumni Association are Community Spirit, Thought Leadership, and Societal Impact.’

We will be working with our alumni located across the world – through our 7 chapters in India, and multiple chapters in the United States, Singapore, and Europe – to kindle community spirit and deliver societal impact, said Shyamala Rajaram.

Coming two years
IIT Madras Alumni Association has planned couple of activities which would be taken up in the coming two years. The initiatives are:

Ø Conduct the ‘I For IITM’ event in a hybrid mode, involving more than 5,000 alumni across 125 cities in 15 countries to celebrate the Foundation Day of IIT Madras.

Ø Under our “Guru Talks” and “Engineering Simplified” series, the IIT Madras faculty will create short, engaging lectures on cutting-edge research and technologies like AI, quantum computing and extra-terrestrial manufacturing.

Ø IITM AA’s ‘Thought Leaders Council’ brings together 12 eminent alumni from across the world to an interdisciplinary forum that will identify a few STI big-bets for India.

Ø Implement the ‘Impact4Bharat’ alumni engagement model for societal impact projects.

Ø Sangam, the flagship event, will be themed this year on ‘Restoring Balance – Women in Leadership and STEM.’ IITM AA is anchoring the chapter for Society of Women Engineers in South India and will champion the causes of 1) Inspiring girl-child and women-students in STEM and 2) Women in leadership and entrepreneurship.

IANC 2025 which will be organized from 7 to 9 March 2025 is bound to be a cynosure of all eyes.

It would highlight the importance of industry and academia and stresses for strengthening of ties between these two vital sectors.

Who will be organizing the three day mega event IANC 2o25 which is also known as Industry – Academia Networking Conclave 2025?

Event is to be organized jointly by School of Mechanical Engineering (SMEC) and the Career Development Centre (CDC).

Objective and theme

IANC 2025 seeks to establish a forum for transparent communication and cooperation between industries and academics.

It unites experts from both industries to exchange information, experience, expertise, and technology, thus enhancing our understanding of potential collaborative areas.

Moreover, IANC 2025 seeks to demonstrate the Institute’s competencies and resources to companies, while also informing students of the industry’s expectations, in order to let them thrive with necessary knowledge and skills.

It also aims to cultivate a symbiotic alliance between academics and industry that advantages both parties, leading to Leading to scientific progress, technology development and cultivation of future collaborations.

Theme of IANC 2025 is ‘ReVITalization for a Sustainable Future.’ There is more to it than meets the eye.

Thematic areas for IANC 2025 are Aviation Technologies, Climate Change, Carbon Neutrality, Circular Economy, Environmental, Social and Governance, Future Materials and Manufacturing.

The school provides four undergraduate degrees, five postgraduate programs, and research opportunities.

According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at VIT is in the top 8-10 in India and 201-250 globally.

The school has signed several Memoranda of Understanding with academic institutes and organizations of national and international reputation, allowing students, researchers, and professors to research and work on cutting-edge innovations through collaboration.

About CDC

Career Development Centre is essential in establishing VIT’s distinguished placement record.

It guarantees the seamless operation of placement activities on campus. The CDC enhances student training initiatives and ensures optimal placement in premier national and worldwide enterprises.

The CDC office assists with securing placements and organizing internships. The Centre is committed to promoting a culture of lifelong learning and to helping students acquire the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a rapidly changing job market.

Various programs will be held as a part of IANC 2025. One of them is panel discussion on the topic ‘Driving Global Change: ESG, Inclusiveness, Equity, and Sustainability in MNCs, MSMEs, and SMEs’

There will also be a Design-a-thon contest where a group students can participate as a team and workout solutions to the challenges and win prizes.
