IIT Hyderabad Hosts Japan Academic Day 2024, Strengthening India-Japan Educational Ties
This event points out the willingness of IITH, JICA, and Japan to strengthen relationships and cooperative engagement between India and Japan.
Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad recently concluded its ‘Japan Academic Day 2024’, which it hosted over two days, from October 21-22. The event was collaboratively organized by JICA and was hosted as a part of Japan Month 2024, declared by the Embassy of Japan in India.
The event was attended by 72 participants from 15 universities and 6 organizations in Japan; the attendees had representations from the Japanese Embassy, JICA, and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
Twenty booths were arranged on the IITH campus to engage students in exploring information regarding potential universities and higher education opportunities in Japan, research opportunities, and scholarship details.
The discussion topics included any opportunities such as co-supervision, industrial collaboration, and internships, among others, as provided by this partnership.
Japan Academic Day 2024
The ceremony included the chief guest Hashimoto Kazuhito, president of JST, the guest of honour Ariyoshi Takashi, charge d’affaires ad interim of Japan, and Takeuchi Takuro, chief representative of the JICA India Office.
Ariyoshi Takashi, Chargé d’affaires ad interim of Japan: “This is just a great event and shall mark the beginning of new joint research between IITH and Japan, as well as an opportunity for IITH students studying in Japan.”
‘MEXT’ scholarships for students
The Japanese embassy “launched two people-to-people exchange programs”, according to the IIT Hyderabad statement. This scholarship is for government-sponsored students under the “MEXT Scholarship”.
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships for students ready to pursue a master’s or doctoral study at a Japanese university.
The Japanese embassy is now open to applications for the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) program. According to the statement by the IIT Hyderabad, it invites overseas students to contribute to foreign language education and international exchange work at Japanese local governments and educational institutions.
