IIT Guwahati has initiated a three months training programme on Drone Technology for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and Other Ranks Officers (OR) will be extended to in due course.

The programme is implemented by the Centre for Educational Technology (CET), Centre for Intelligent Cyber Physical Systems (CICPS), Centre for Drone Technology and IIT Guwahati Technology Innovation and Development Foundation (IITG TIDF).

Initiative

Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, Centre for Drone Technology and Dean, PRBR, IIT Guwahati, spoke on this major initiative for the armed forces.

He said over the past few years IIT Guwahati has been engaging with the armed forces to augment them with niche technologies, services and implementing skilling and other programs.

This first of its kind program will focus on providing exhaustive training on Drone technologies, Pilot training, software operations and applications to other officers of armed forces.

It also provides training to junior commissioned officers with a mission to revolutionize various operational activities, said Prof Parameswar K Iyer of IIT Guwahati.

Upskilling

Speaking on the upskilling program Prof. T. V. Bharat, Head, Centre for Educational Technology, IIT Guwahati, said, IIT Guwahati, is offering a certificate program on Drone Technology-related course to the defence forces for the first time in the country to skill the armed forces with this upcoming technology and to boost their career opportunities post retirement for senior officers.

The current training program by faculty from different departments and centers with wide experience would provide numerous opportunities as entrepreneurs or any other technology based second career to our defence forces, said Prof Bharat of IIT Guwahati.

Knowledge

The program is specifically tailored to equip participants with the knowledge, perception, and vision necessary for them to succeed professionally in the diverse drone industry or as technology entrepreneurs, say IIT Guwahati.

He said, expert faculties from CICPS are taking care of the theory courses, the technical members from IITG TIDF are imparting practical training and hands-on experience to the participants.

They are to make them understand the core concepts which will help them to be an entrepreneur and to have their own start-ups in the field of Drone Technologies, said Prof Santosha of IIT Guwahati.

The Current batch of Drone Technology Program has 30 personnel from various armed forces, said Prof Santosha of IIT Guwahati.

Fundamental and practical aspects

The program is carefully crafted to combine fundamental and practical aspects of drone technology and operations that would include theoretical, classroom sessions and practical handling, say sources from IIT Guwahati.

The theoretical part focuses on the fundamentals of Maths and Computing Foundation, Drone Technology, Fundamentals of Electrical, Electronics & Mechanical Engineering, and Applied Engineering

The practical part is more focused on the hands-on training using Flight Simulator, Basic Assembly, Risk Assessment & Analysis, Drone Equipment Maintenance, Payload, Installation and Utilization, Intro to Drone Data & Analysis.

Along with this, Robotics, 3D Printing, Practical Flying with Instructor, and Solo Flying is also a part of this unique program.

Reorientation

As members and officers of the Armed Forces, participants already possess a high level of discipline, leadership, and professionalism, which are invaluable traits for mastering new skills.

Through this training, they will gain the necessary reorientation, retooling, and upskilling to thrive in the evolving drone industry, say sources from IIT Guwahati.

The three-month course on Drone Technology has been specially designed for JCOs and ORs of the Armed Forces to not only expand their knowledge on the dynamics of Drone Technology and its various applications in the emerging global environment.

It is also designed to give them an insight into the civil domain, and familiarize them with the working environment of the corporate world, he said.

Mr. A. Kumar of Indian Air force, shared his experience of attending the Drone Technology Training program. He said, “It is a great experience being in one of the premier institutes of India.

Learning many things from basics which we left 20 years ago was a difficult task but the way professors taught us was great, said A Kumar speaking about the program of IIT Guwahati

The environment at IIT Guwahati is very educative and so far, it has been a very pleasant and knowledgeable stay here, he said.

This program is the beginning of a series of upskilling Officers Courses to be offered by IIT Guwahati.

NATA 2025 application submission has started from 3 February 2025 and will be on till April 2025 at ‘https://www.nata.in/’ The exam will be conducted from 7 March 2025 till 28 June 2025.

The exam is being conducted on every Friday and Saturday from 7 March to 28 June 2025, closing date for online NATA 2025 application submission is Friday exam is 11:59 PM on every Monday from 7 March to 28 June 2025.

Similarly, deadline for NATA 2025 application submission online for Saturday exam is 11:59 PM on every Tuesday from 7 March to 28 June 2025. Link For information on important dates in connection with test and NATA 2025 application submission is here.

During that duration, the exam will be conducted on Fridays in afternoon session from 1:30 to 4:30 pm.

It will also be held on Saturdays in morning (10 am to 1 pm) and afternoon (1:30 pm to 4:30 pm). The duration for the exam on all these days is for three hours.

Students who are interested in studying graduation in architecture, can take up NATA 2025 application submission.

Who can take up NATA 2025 application submission?

Candidates who have passed plus-two from a recognized educational institution can take up NATA 2025 application submission. It is nothing but applying for the exam.

Subjects in the plus-two must be from the science stream. Architecture aspirants have to pass plus-two with maths, physics, and chemistry as subjects.

Students who have appeared for plus-two exams and are waiting for the results or are about to appear for plus-two exams can also apply.

They have to, however, pass the exam and provide proof of it by the time of admission.

Candidates taking up NATA 2025 application submission can pay a fee of  ₹1750 if they are from General or OBC categories.

SC/ST/EWS/PwD category candidates have to pay NATA 2025 application submission fee of ₹1250, applicants from transgender category candidates can pay  ₹1000 while taking up NATA 2025 application submission and fee for the outside India candidates is ₹15000.
