IIM Visakhapatnam has commenced the admission process for two year full-time residential Post Graduate Programme (PGP) for the academuic year 2021-23.

About PGP programme
PGP programme offered at IIM Visakhapatnam is of two year duration which leads to post graduate degree in Management.

This course at IIM Visakhapatnam is designed to equip students to take on leadership roles in a rapidly changing global scenario.

It has been accorded equivalence with Master’s degree of an Indian University by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) for the purpose of admission to higher studies.

With three terms in a year and summer internship on completion of first year, the programme lays foundation for conceptual and analytical reasoning, and gives students an insight into the dynamics of the business environment.

General admission process
Candidates desiring to study the course at IIM Visakhapatnam have to pass CAT 2020 exam with the required aggregate score and individual score in three subjects.

Candidates with the required percentile score can apply for the PGP programme at official website of IIM Visakhapatnam.

The shortlisted candidates will be called for personal interview (PI). Post PI, the final list of candidates chosen for providing seats at IIM Visakhapatnam will be brought out.

Candidates featuring the final list can pay the fee and join IIM Visakhapatnam.

It is to note preference will be given to those candidates who have chosen IIM Visakhapatnam as their institute for studying management course while filing the application for CAT 2020 exam.

Management education aspirants have to remember that selection in the admission in IIM Visakhapatnam happens not only on CAT 2020 score but also on their academic performance in 10th and 12th standards, qualifying degree exam.

Added to these, applicants wishing to get a seat in IIM Visakhapatnam have to garner good impression in the interview.

Relevant work experience also carries weightage in admission process.

Admission process in detail
The admission will be held in three phases – Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3.

These three phases will be held at three different points of time.

Phase 1 (A)
Candidates who have passed CAT 2020 exam and have chosen IIM Visakhapatnam as preferred institute for study can apply for the first phase.

Candidates with the required overall and individual subject score who chose IIM Visakhapatnam can approach the official website of the institute (IIM Visakhapatnam).

The official website to apply is ‘https://iimv.ac.in/’

Once the webpage is downloaded, applicants fulfilling the above criteria can see the button ‘Admissions Open PGP2021-23/PhD2021’ in orange colour located next to the logo of IIM Visakhapatnam.

Candidates have to click the button, a new webpage is downloaded, they can find two links, one is for registering for PGP 2021 admission and the second one is for registering for PhD 2021 admissions.

Candidates have to click the button for registering for PGP 2021-23 admission and begin registering.

Post registration and obtaining username and password, candidates can login to the website and begin applying for PGP 2021-23.

Applicants can submit the applications for PGP courses from 13 January to 11 am of 15 March.

The registration fee for the first phase is Rs 1000.

The required cutoff for candidates applying for PGP course at IIM Visakhapatnam is different for candidates of various categories.

General category applicants for PGP course of IIM Visakhapatnam must have an overall percentile of 85 percent and their percentils in all three sections of CAT exam 2020 must be 80 percent each.

The three sections are Section1 (VARC), Section2 (DILR) and Section3 (QA).

The overall percentile in CAT 2020 exam for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) is 75 percent and score in three sections of CAT 2020 exam must be 70 percent each.

The Non-Creamy layer OBC category candidates must have an aggregate score of 75 percent in CAT 2020 exam and score in three sections must be 70 percent each.

The overall score for SC category candidates in CAT exam for 2020 is 55 percent and scores in three sections of the exam must be 50 percent each.

The aggregate score for ST and PwD category candidates is 40 and scores in three subjects of CAT 2020 exams is 30 percent each.

The candidates who are shortlisted initially will receive an email link from IIM Visakhapatnam by end of January this year.

The link can be used to apply in a detailed manner for PGP course.

Applicants have to send documents along with the application for the course at IIM Visakhapatnam.

The documents to be attached are – Statement of Purpose, semester/year-wise undergraduate scores, certificates of 10th and 12th standards, work-experience if applicable, category certificate along with the application form.

Candidates from Non creamy layer OBC, SC,ST EwS and PwD must attach category certificate ensuring they belong to the particular community along with the application form.

Applicants who are shortlisted in the first phase can apply for second phase.

Phase 2
Candidates who send the detailed application form will be referred as Qualified Confirmed Candidates and will be considered for second phase of the admission process.

Qualified Confirmed Candidates will be receiving an email from IIM Visakhapatnam around first week of April this year asking them to confirm their interest in pursuing the candidature for the admission into the course at IIM Visakhapatnam.

Post their confirmation, candidates will be known as Reconfirmed Qualified Candidates and will be considered for second phase of selection.

Reconfirmed Qualified Candidates will be shortlisted based on their CAT 2020 score, 10th board exam score 12th board exam score, score in the qualifying degree or professional course exam, gender diversity and work experience.

The weightage for each criteria mentioned above while shortlisting is, CAT 2020 score – 40, 10th board exam – 10, 12th board exam – 10, score in the qualifying degree or professional course exam – 18, gender diversity – 19 and work experience – 12.

Professional courses are Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting and Company Secretaryship.

If any of the candidates whose final degree score is pending, then, their incomplete scores will be taken into account.

The candidates shortlisted in the second phase will be taking part in the interview which will happen in third phase.

For all Reconfirmed Qualified Candidates, normalization or standardization in any component
stated above is carried out as per the following formula.

All standardization is done with reference to the qualifying first shortlist.

Standardized score (truncated between 0 and weight (wt)) is computed from the raw score (val) as:
Max [0, min {wt, wt/2 + ((val-mean)/sd) * wt/6}]

Post interview the final list of candidates selected for admission into IIM Visakhapatnam is brought out.

The final list of the candidates is prepared based on weightage of PI score, CAT score, 10th board score, 12th board score, bachelor’s degree score, gender diversity and work experience.

The weightage for the above categories is – PI Score (weight=25), CAT (weight=25), 10th Board (weight=5), 12th Board (weight=5), Bachelor’s (weight=10), Gender diversity {Gender (Female & transgender)/Non-engineer} (weight=20) and work experience (weight=10).

Candidates who have already attended PIs at any one of the IIMs at Bangalore, Calcutta, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Indore for admission into respective courses there need not attend PI at IIM Visakhapatnam.

For these candidates, the average of their Personal Interview (PI) scores from the above IIMs will be used to derive their PI score for IIM Visakhapatnam.

Applicants who are not shortlisted and interviewed at anyone of the above IIMs have to attend the personal interview at IIM Visakhapatnam.
