IBS MBA Admissions 2025: Micro-Presentation Replaces Group Discussion
This new format intends to holistically assess a candidate regarding essential aspects such as communication skills.
Micro-Presentation for Admission to the MBA/PGPM programme February 2025 intake All nine campuses of IBS To better assess the ability of students to work effectively in a post-management education environment, IBS is replacing the traditional Group Discussion (GD) with a new evaluation format called Micro-Presentation for its MBA/PGPM programme admissions from February 2025.
The selection process for the MBA/PGPM program will now comprise two key components, namely the Micro-Presentation and the Personal Interview, both carrying 25 marks. The new format is intended to completely assess applicants on key skills such as communication skills, quick thinking, and aptitude for management.
Micro-Presentation: A New Way of Testing Communication Skills
The Micro-Presentation tests if the candidates think quickly, can mentally organise their thoughts, and present them effectively. This is how it works out:
- Topic Choice: Students will first choose a number between 1 and 100. Each number then corresponds to a pre-assigned topic.
- Preparation Time: After the students have chosen the number, the candidate will be given the assigned topic and will have 1 minute for preparation purposes.
- Presentation: After the preparation time, candidates will deliver a 3-minute presentation on the chosen topic.
- Flexibility: If the candidate finds the initial topic difficult, they may request a second topic by choosing a different number. However, they are allowed only one topic change. Topics are randomized after each selection to ensure fairness.
Key features of the micro-presentation
- Individual Exercise: A Micro-Presentation is a task that no one will complete in a Group Discussion. Only the candidate presenting the topic will speak, and there will be no interaction or discussion with other candidates during the presentation.
- No Q&A: Candidates will not be posed any questions during or after their presentation, allowing them to showcase their ability to organize and express their thoughts without interruption.
- Audience: Each candidate will speak in front of 9-11 fellow classmates and 2 panel members, so it will be an excellent opportunity to communicate, and demonstrate confidence and clarity.
