A proposal with two options is said to have been putforth in that meeting with regards to 12th class board exams in 2021.
The first was to conduct exams for a few subjects instead of all.
The second option was to conduct all exams in a reduced time of 1.5 hours instead of usual three hours.
The questions will be of multiple choice and short answer type, say sources.
A few states went against the idea of conducting exams in 2021 as the circumstances were not favourable owing to COVID-19 situation.
States not in favour of conducting exams put a point that virus outbreak posed risks for students and teachers.
Taking safety into consideration, good thing to do is to not conduct exams as of now.
Maharashtra and Delhi were among the states who did not encourage the idea of conducting exams.
However, a few other states of this nation have taken another route.
Union Education Minister, post meeting, conveyed the message on Twitter that the safety and security of students and teachers is of high importance.
He said the final decision with regards to 12th class exams will be made soon.
There are many indications as of now. Sources say, centre may favour short form of exams, while states are to take their own decisions.
The move to higher education is determined by student’s performance in 12th class exams.
So most of the students and their parents have their questions surrounding the 12th class exams in 2021.
The exams in 2021 is of high importance. The meeting held to discuss the possibility of conducting exams in 2021 saw the participation of Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
The other Union Ministers present were Smriti Zubin Irani and Prakash Javadekar.
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is said to have proposed board exams in 2021 could be held from July 15 to August 26.
The results are to be declared by September. Most of the states have left it to the central government to take a decision.
There will be more discussion as far as the issue of exams in 2021 is concerned before final decision is taken.
The favour seems to be towards conducting the exams in 2021 and not cancelling them. Neither CBSE nor the government is said to be in favour of cancelling exams.
Sources said, exams could be conducted for major subjects, marks for other subjects could be allotted based on internal assessment.
Students who are not satisfied with the marks allotted through the alternative assessment procedure may be given an option to sit for an exam.
Exams in 2021 will be conducted when the situation turns normal. The questions regarding exams in 2021 are still bothering students and their parents.
Needless to say, search is on still for answers. The hope is that answers with regards to exams in 2021 are likely to be obtained on June 1 where final decision regarding exams will be made.
