The same as a subject means, study of the knowledge that goes behind designing, building, testing and operating of electronic devices. It is the study of the knowledge required to build the electronic devices and operate them effectively.
Study
Electronics Engineering is offered at undergraduate level as BE or BTech in Electronics Engineering. The same at postgraduate level is offered as ME or MTech in Electronics Engineering.
Certain colleges may offer Electronics Engineering in combination with other subjects like Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Electronics and Communication Engineering.
In such cases, the course will likely be called BE or BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering and so on. The same at postgraduation level, the course name could be BE or BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering.
The duration of undergraduate programme in Electronics Engineering is usually of four year duration. The postgraduate degree is usually of two years.
The subjects in plus-two must be maths, physics and chemistry. Students looking forward for a postgraduate study in Electronics Engineering must have passed a bachelors degree in Electronics Engineering.
Individuals who have passed postgraduate degree in Electronics Engineering can apply for a doctorate degree in the same subject.
Admission process
There are two methods of gaining admission into various colleges to study Electronics Engineering. While one process in through merit based system, the other process is through entrance exam.

If the individual wants to apply for a undergraduate course, the qualifying exam would be plus-two. The same when applying for a postgraduate course is bachelors degree in the relevant discipline.
The qualification for a doctorate degree is a pass in postgraduate degree in the respective discipline.
Entrance Exam
The other way to admit students into Electronics Engineering course is through entrance exam. Individuals seeking admission under this process have to write an entrance test.
Students who have fulfilled the required eligibility condition can write the entrance test and pass it with required score. Those who pass with required score have to take part in the counselling process where they can choose the college where they wish to study Electronics Engineering.
JEE Mains
This entrance exam is conducted by National Testing Agency and students who pass this test can get admission into National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs).
Students who wish to study Electronics Engineering in IITs have to pass the same exam with a rank in top 2.5 lakhs on a national level to qualify for attempting JEE Advanced.
JEE Advanced
Students who wish to study in IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) have to pass JEE Advanced exam with the required score. Post passing JEE Advanced, students can take part in counselling where they can choose the IIT and the course they want to study there.
AMUEEE
The test is known as Aligarh Muslim University Engineering Entrance Exam and is conducted by Aligarh Muslim University to provide admission into engineering courses.
SRMJEEE
The exam is known as SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Exam and is conducted by SRM Institute of Science and Technology which is based at Kattankulathur near Chennai in Tamil Nadu.
GATE
This is an exam for students willing to study postgraduation in Electronics Engineering. Candidates who pass the exam with required score can take part in the further process of admission.
The course
There are various topics that are covered as a part of Electronics Engineering course. Some of the topics taught are Analog and Digital Electronic devices along with their construction, design, functionality and efficiency conditions.
Some other topics are electronic devices, important electronic systems like communication systems, embedded systems and computer systems. Communication systems, signal processing, VLSI designs for ASICs.
Electronics Engineering is also about sensors, processors, diodes, transistors, simulators.
Career and salary
Students who have studied Electronics Engineering have lot of opportunities like Embedded Systems Engineer, Quality Assurance Engineer, System Engineer, Technical Support Engineer. The other positions are Network Engineer, Hardware Engineer, CAD Engineer and Product Engineer.
Quality Assurance Engineer
These people are in charge of checking the quality of electronic products. They also give the advice on measures need to be put in place to ensure quality of products. The annual salary package for these individuals would be around Rs 2.5 to Rs 3.8 lakhs.
Technical Support Engineer
These personnel provide assistance to ensure the technical systems work well in an organisation. In case of trouble, these people are called for troubleshooting. The annual pay package ranges from Rs 2 to Rs 3.3 lakhs.
Hardware Engineer
These people are in charge of hardware building, rectification and maintenance. The hardware is the internal parts of systems like computers and electronic devices. These people draw an annual pay package from Rs 3 to 4 lakhs.
Product Engineer
Product Engineers are those who are in charge of designing products, analyzing the work style and usage of products. Their work is also to use innovation abilities and bring out new products. The salary for these personnel annually can be from Rs 3 to Rs 6 lakhs.
Mechatronics
The main subject of Electronics Engineering has associated with various other disciplines like Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Systems Engineering and gave way to new science called as ‘Mechatronics’
Students who have done their graduation in Electronics Engineering can consider a postgraduation in Mechatronics also. Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary science which brings together the principles of electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science engineering and others to bring out reliable products, systems that could be put to lot of good uses.
