The University of Delhi (DU) is set to implement a new admission strategy for the 2024 academic year following the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) recent decision. The UGC has permitted universities to hold their own entrance tests for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) admissions after the regular rounds of counselling for DU UG Admission.
According to DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, the university will utilize Class 12 marks to fill any remaining seats after the Common Seat Allocation System (DU CSAS) rounds are completed. “We welcome UGC’s directive. We are equally concerned that seats in any course do not remain unfilled. We would utilize Class 12 results to fill vacancies in undergraduate programs,” the DU VC informed ANI. Meanwhile, the university has released the CSAS phase 2 schedule for DU UG Admission in 2024.
The delay in publishing the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) Common University Entrance Test (CUET 2024) results has interrupted the academic schedule for first-year students, according to various professors and universities. The UGC advised central universities in 2022 to give admission based on CUET scores rather than their own entrance tests.
Despite many steps implemented by the university, more than 5,000 seats remained unfilled in more than 60 DU institutions by 2023. The DU seat allocation is based on seat availability, program-specific merit, and the order of choice indicated by candidates. The institution has stated that it will fill 71,000 seats through the admissions process.
