CBSE Exams 2020, the 10th and 12th class exams of Central Board of Secondary Education that are yet to be conducted will be held from 1 to 15 July. Announcement regarding the pending exams is said to have been made by Union Minister for Human Resources Development Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. The date sheet will likely be available on the official website of CBSE at ‘cbse.nic.in’ soon.

It is well known that the CBSE Exams 2020 could not be conducted as per their planned schedules in the past owing to two main reasons.

While the first was the protests with regards to CAA that rocked the nation, the second was the outbreak of corona virus which sent the whole country into a lock down.

The situation brought down by the two earlier said reasons appears to have not gone well with other parents and students.

Conducting CBSE Exams 2020 is a must if students have to move to higher levels of learning, and, when that does not happen as per the schedule one would be rather less pleased.

As far as 10th standard board exams are concerned, exams for six subjects will be conducted for students from north-east Delhi. The date sheet will be announced by CBSE soon.

Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said the exams that are pending will be conducted from 1 to 15 July this year. There is enough time for students to prepare and revise, he said.

If every thing goes as per the plan, conducting the exam will be done easily, says T. Manoharan, an engineer. His son T. Muthukrishnan is yet to write his 12th exams.

Thankfully the dates are declared now, it will be easy for him to plan his further studies, he says. It is to be noted that CBSE Exams 2020 could not be conducted with regards to 10th standard.

The protest situation did not enable students from north-east part of Delhi to write exam for four examination days. CBSE Exams 2020 did not take place for eight examination days after 18 March owing to outbreak of corona virus.

The subjects with regards to which CBSE Exams 2020 are to be held for 12th standard of north-east Delhi are English Elective-N, English Elective-C, English Core, Mathematics, Economics, Biology, Political Science.

The other subjects are History, Physics, Accountancy, Chemistry. The class 12 subjects for all India are Business Studies, Geography, Hindi (elective), Hindi (core), Home Science, Sociology, Computer Science (old), Computer Science (New), Information Practice (old), Information Practice (New), Information Technology and Bio-Technology.

JEE Mains and NEET 2020 dates have also been announced. JEE Main is to be held between 18 and 23 July, and, NEET 2020 is to be conducted on 26 July.

As said earlier, CBSE Exams 2020 will take place from 1 to 15 July, and sources also say that results for CBSE Exams 2020, particularly the class 12 results are said to be released before JEE Advanced releases its merit list.

M. Sadanand, Chemistry teacher points that the wise thing would be to use the time available now itself and prepare for the exams to the best.

CBSE Exams 2020 will be conducted from 1 to 15 July, JEE Mains will be held between 18 and 23 July which means there would be no much time between these two exams, so wise thing would be to prepare everything now itself, he says.

However, there is some relaxation for those appearing for NEET 2020. CBSE Exams 2020 will be over from 1 to 15 July, NEET 2020 is on 26 July. There is some gap between the two exams which can help students.

However Sadanand says this gap does not mean relaxation, focus should be on preparation. Even NEET aspirants too must use to must make use of the time available now to strengthen their hold on academics.

Taking three major exams namely CBSE Exams 2020, JEE Mains 2020 and NEET 2020 into account, the unique factor is that students are getting to write these exams one after the other and time gap between these exams is relatively lesser this time, says Rupesh Kumar, a maths lecturer.

Such a situation was not seen in the previous year. CBSE Exams for 12th was held from 15 February to 4 April, JEE Mains 2019 was held from 8 to 12 January and 7 to 12 April. NEET 2019 was held on 5 May.

This time, I mean in 2020 we are getting to see this delay owing to many factors, says T. Girish, whose son is to yet write in 12th exams. The best thing to do would be use the time available now.

It challenging especially for those who would have applied for both NEET and JEE Main and also have to write CBSE Exams 2020. When going gets tough only tough get going is the saying, reminds Sadanand. Hardwork with determination to succeed leads to victory, he reminds.

CBSE also has released a notification in this regard at its official website which says the pending exams for CBSE Exams 2020 will be held from 1 to 15 July. The notification can be accessed through the link ‘http://cbse.nic.in/newsite/attach/PRESS%20RELEASE%2008.05.2020.pdf’ And the same notification says students can know the subjects for which the exams will be held from the press release dated 1.4.2020 (1 April 2020)  issued by CBSE.

NIT Rourkela research team led by Prof. Preetam Sarkar, Associate Professor, Department of Food Process Engineering, have developed an intelligent food packaging film using natural and biodegradable materials.

Designed to monitor the freshness of seafood in real-time by responding to pH changes, the film offers a practical solution for improving food safety and reducing waste.

This film detects the release of volatile amines, compounds typically associated with spoilage, and indicates food quality through visible color changes, say sources from NIT Rourkela.

Starch

The film is composed of starch extracted from Kodo millet (Paspalum scrobiculatum), gum tragacanth (a natural plant gum), and beetroot peel extract, which contains pH-sensitive pigments known as betalains.

These natural components make the film biodegradable, safe, and responsive, aligning with sustainability goals and offering a non-invasive way to assess seafood freshness.

Findings

The findings of this research have been published in the journal Food Packaging and Shelf Life in a paper co-authored by Prof. Preetam Sarkar (as the lead corresponding author), along with his research scholars, Mr. Rahul Thakur, Miss Harshi Singhi, Mr. Vedsagar Rajesh Suryavanshi, and Dr. Ravichandran Santhosh.

Other co-authors in this work include Dr. Khalid Gul from NIT Rourkela, Dr. Swarup Roy from Lovely Professional University, Dr. Srinivas Janaswamy from South Dakota State University, Brookings, USA and Dr. Kirtiraj K. Gaikwad from IIT Roorkee.

Fishing

India is the world’s second-largest fish-producing nation, contributing approximately 8% of global fish production, say NIT Rourkela researchers.

It also holds the distinction of being the top five producer of shrimp globally, with frozen shrimp being the top export commodity.

Given the scale and importance of seafood production, innovations that ensure freshness and reduce spoilage are of immense value, say NIT Rourkela researchers.

In this context, intelligent packaging systems, which preserve food while monitoring its quality, are rapidly gaining global interest.

Unlike conventional packaging that serves merely as a protective barrier, the intelligent packaging film developed by NIT Rourkela team offers visual cues about the product’s condition, making it a promising solution for enhancing food safety and reducing waste.

The beetroot peel extract was prepared separately, and then combined with the starch, gum tragacanth, and a small amount of glycerol to cast the films.

These were dried and tested for their pH-sensitivity and effectiveness in monitoring seafood freshness, said Prof Preetam of NIT Rourkela.

Pigments

Beetroot peels contain betalains, a group of pigments known for their bright colours and pH sensitivity, say NIT Rourkela researchers.

These pigments also offer antioxidant and antimicrobial benefits, making them suitable for food-related applications.

Incorporating these natural compounds into the starch-based film creates a biodegradable, safe, and responsive packaging material.

When the seafood begins to spoil and pH levels rise, the film changes colour, providing a clear visual indicator of freshness.

Starch

The choice of Kodo millet starch and gum tragacanth contributes to the film’s biodegradable and eco-friendly profile.

Kodo millet is an underutilised grain with excellent film-forming properties, while gum tragacanth enhances the mechanical strength and flexibility of the material.

The researchers believe that using such agricultural by-products not only supports sustainability but also adds value to food processing waste, such as beetroot peels.

NIT Rourkela

At the laboratory scale, the cost of producing the film was estimated approximately Rs. 900 per kilogram.

When scaled up for industrial production, the cost is projected to range between Rs. 400 and Rs. 600 per kilogram, making it a potentially viable option for commercial use.
