CBSE 10th 12th exams: Great, at the first opportunity
CBSE 10th 12th exams that have been postponed due to corona virus outbreak will be conducted at the first opportunity, said sources from Central Board of Secondary Education. This confirmation is said to have come amidst the present uncertainty where students and parents are both worried about the pending exams.
A glimpse of the recent past will tell us the entire nation witnessed protests with regards to CAA and its impact was felt on the education arena also. CBSE 10th 12th exams had to be postponed because of that.
The delay gave a scope for speculation among the students and parents about the conducting of CBSE 10th 12th exams. Later on there came a development where CBSE said it would just conduct exams for 29 subjects that are required for moving towards higher education.
The exams will be conducted at the first possibility visible and a notice will be issued well in advance before commencing the exams, say sources.
Sources further say, CBSE is said to have assured that their decision to conduct exams for 29 important subjects has not changed.
Soon, CBSE is also said to issue instructions with regards to conducting assessment of not so important subjects. These are the subjects that are not found in the list of important subjects with regards to CBSE 10th 12th exams.
Even states have been asked to begin evaluation process for the exams already held. This also showers a ray of hope that things are likely to move soon in the right direction. However, doubts continue to persist in the minds of students.
The biggest doubt is whether the lock down will end after 3 May or not. Should lock down continue, prospects of conducting CBSE 10th 12th exams are remote, says K. Mukunda Rao, a Physics teacher.
The best thing to do would be to perhaps conduct internal assessment and then allot marks based on that, he says.
There are many who agree to this. Lock down will still exist for those areas where infection rate is high. Students from those areas may not be able to come out for exams, says M. Naresh Kumar, a Maths teacher.

About CBSE
A trail of developments mark the significant changes that took place over the years in shaping up CBSE to its present status. U P Board of High School and Intermediate Education was the first Board set up in 1921. It has under its jurisdiction Rajputana, Central India and Gwalior.
In response to the representation made by the Government of United Provinces, the then Government of India suggested to set up a joint Board in 1929 for all the areas which was named as the ‘Board of High School and Intermediate Education, Rajputana’. This included Ajmer, Merwara, Central India and Gwalior.
The Board witnessed rapid growth and expansion at the level of Secondary education resulting in improved quality and standard of education in institutions. But with the advent of State Universities and State Boards in various parts of the country the jurisdiction of the Board was confined only to Ajmer, Bhopal and Vindhya Pradesh later.
As a result of this, in 1952, the constitution of the Board was amended wherein its jurisdiction was extended to part-C and Part-D territories and the Board was given its present name ‘Central Board of Secondary Education’.
It was in the year 1962 finally that the Board was reconstituted. The main objectives were to serve the educational institutions more effectively, to be responsive to the educational needs of those students whose parents were employed in the Central Government and had frequently transferable jobs.
