Collegechalo brings more information about Artificial Intelligence course, qualifications requried to study it and other related issues.
This in a way has led to the genesis of Artificial Intelligence course and many colleges have begun offering the programme at the above said levels. Artificial Intelligence course is available at undergraduate level as BE or BTech Artificial Intelligence.
The programme at post graduate level is offered as ME or MTech Artificial Intelligence. A few institutions offer Artificial Intelligence course as BE or ME and certain others offer it as BTech or MTech.
Artificial Intelligence course at undergraduation – BE or BTech is of four years. The postgraduation course, ME or MTech is of two years. The doctorate in Artificial Intelligence course would usually be of 3 to 4 years.
Certificate or diploma or postgraduate diploma course would usually be of 8 to 15 months of duration.
In case the course is offered in combination, the name would usually be BE or BTech (Artificial Intelligence and Robotics) or BE or BTech (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
The course is usually offered in many institutions by the Computer Science and Engineering department as one of the courses, in that case the degree would be called BE or BTech CSE (Artificial Intelligence).
Certain colleges also have a separate department for Artificial Intelligence where the course is offered as BE/BTech or ME/MTech. For example, IIT Hyderabad has a separate department for AI which offers BTech in Artificial Intelligence.
However, students must remember that there is a good deal of difference between Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
AI or Artificial Intelligence is a broader level subject which deals with building systems that would work smart and have capabilities on par with humans. These systems would work with the same capacity that humans usually work.
Humans on the other hand, would be able to interact with these systems just in the way, they would interact with fellow humans.
Machine Learning is about making the systems in such a way that they can learn from the data without being explicitly programmed. It is about building a feature in the systems that would enable them to learn by themselves through available data. Machine Learning is considered to be a part of Artificial Intelligence.
Undergraduate
Students willing to study Artificial Intelligence course at undergraduate level have to pass plus-two from a recognised institution with subjects as maths, physics and chemistry.
Postgraduate
Applicants for Artificial Intelligence course at postgraduate level must have passed bachelors degree in the relevant discipline. Certain colleges may even allow students passing bachelors degree in allied disciplines like Computer Science and Engineering also to apply.
Doctorate
A pass in postgraduate degree in Artificial Intelligence course is a must to apply for a doctorate degree in Artificial Intelligence.
Diploma, Postgraduate diploma, certificate courses
Students who have passed plus-two from science stream with subjects as maths, physics or chemistry can opt for these courses. Candidates who have passed regular degree courses in engineering disciplines like Computer Science Engineering or its allied disciplines can also opt for these programmes. Students from regular courses like BSc or MSc Computer Science or BSc or MSc Electronics can also choose to study these programmes.
Entrance test based
Students who meet the required eligibility condition have to apply in an institution to study Artificial Intelligence course and then pass a written test which is conducted by that particular institute.
Post passing the entrance test, they can take part in the counselling and then gain a seat.
Candidates who wish to study Artificial Intelligence course in renowned institutions like IIT Hyderabad have to write JEE Advanced exam with required score and then take part in the counselling procedure to get a seat.
Merit based
This is a system where students are admitted into Artificial Intelligence course based on their performance in the qualifying exam. Qualifying exam is usually plus-two when applying for an undergraduate course.
A pass in bachelors degree is the qualification for applying for postgraduation course. The same when seeking a seat in doctorate course is a pass in postgraduate course in the respective discipline.
However, students opting for admission in merit based system have to score exceptionally well in the qualifying exams.
Entrance exams
The entrance exams conducted for admission into Artificial Intelligence course are of two types- national level, institutional level. Some of the popular entrance exams are given below:
JEE Mains
This exam is conducted by National Testing Agency. A pass in this exam is required for admission into National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs). A pass in this exam is a qualifier for JEE Advanced.
SRMJEEE
This is conducted by SRM Institute of Science and Technology and is known as SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Exam. Students who pass the test have to take part in the counselling process.
VITEEE
This is the test conducted by Vellore Institute of Technology which is headquartered in Vellore in Tamil Nadu. It is expanded into VIT Engineering Entrance Examination.
GATE
It is popularly known as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. This is for the students who wish to study courses in engineering and technology at postgraduate level in IITs or NITs or IISC.
LPUNEST
This is conducted by Lovely Professional University (LPU). The complete name of the exam is Lovely Professional University National Entrance and Scholarship Test. Students willing to study graduate and postgraduate courses in the university have to pass this test.
Studying Artificial Intelligence course at postgraduate level would usually cost Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.6 lakhs. Diploma or certificate or postgraduate diploma courses can be studied at a cost of Rs 20,000 to Rs 65,000 per year.
Study of the course at doctorate level would usually range from Rs 65,000 to Rs 1.2 lakhs per year.
