Nagaland University conducts great 7th convocation

Nagaland University celebrated its Seventh Convocation ceremony on 15 April 2025 at its Lumami Campus in Zunheboto, Nagaland.
The institution is said to be the only central university in the state. There is more to it than meets the eye as far as convocation is concerned.


Among these, 38 Gold Medallists and 30 PhD awardees were specially recognised for their exemplary academic accomplishments.
Chief guest
La Ganesan, Governor of Nagaland and Chief Rector of Nagaland University, graced the occasion as chief guest with Dr. Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Hon’ble Chancellor, Nagaland University, and Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University.
Seed funding
Among the major recent developments include the generation of Rs. 6.67 crore from External funding agencies as research grant during last two years.

Further, young teachers have also been provided with Rs. 1.57 crore in seed money as a start-up research grant, say resources from Nagaland University.
Over the last two years 170 National and International patents have been filed and over 75 have been granted till date.
Research articles
More than one thousand research articles, books and anthologies were published by the teachers of Nagaland University this year, most of them being Scopus Indexed articles.

Three teachers of the university are ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientist in the Stanford Ranking this year.
Dignitaries
Other dignitaries present during the Convocation of Nagaland University were include Dr. Abemo, Registrar, Nagaland University, Prof. Raghvendra P. Tiwari, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Prof. Rama Shanker Dubey, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Gujarat, Madhav Govind, Visitor’s Nominee to the Executive Council, Nagaland University, along with faculty, students and parents.
Greatest asset of India
Chief guest La Ganesan said on our march towards Viksit Bharat or a developed India by 2047, India’s young population is regarded as the nation’s greatest asset in achieving this goal.
The road to Viksit Bharat is supported by extensive initiatives designed to promote inclusive growth, increase productivity, and encourage sustainable development, said Governor of Nagaland while during the convocation of Nagaland University.

The quest for Viksit Bharat transcends governmental action, it is a shared endeavor that calls upon every individual, business and organization to contribute to a more promising and prosperous future, he said.
La Ganesan who is also the Chief Rector of Nagaland University, said the Indian economy has significant potential for growth in the coming years, which is both attainable and real.

In fact, many of these new ventures will be initiated by young entrepreneurs. I recognize in this group, the future founders of thriving start-ups.

Departments and schools
Nagaland University has 6 Schools of Studies, 43 Departments and 5 UGC sponsored Centers of Studies spread across three permanent campuses.
At present, the University has 259 permanent faculty members and a total of 26,585 students including those enrolled in the 76 colleges affiliated with the University.
Nagaland University has already implemented the National Education Policy 2020.
It has adopted the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme with the provision for Multiple Entry and Exit option.
Further, as a progressive step aimed at broadening the resource capabilities, the University launched a Four-Year UG program focused on basic sciences under the aegis of the recently created Multidisciplinary Research Centre at Lumami Campus.
This initiative marks a significant step in boosting STEM education in Nagaland.
