IIT Kanpur to host great 57th sports meet, conducts workshop
IIT Kanpur is set to host 57th inter IIT students sports meet and the 29th inter IIT staff sports meet, bringing together over 3,500 participants from 23 IITs across India.
This prestigious annual event, scheduled from December 9-24, 2024, celebrates athletic excellence, competitive spirit, and the camaraderie that defines the IIT community.
Staff
The Staff Sports Meet will follow from December 19 to December 24, featuring events such as basketball, tennis, cricket, football, table tennis, volleyball, athletics, squash, badminton, and chess.
This year, the chess event will include participation from Differently-Abled Persons (DAP), highlighting the event’s commitment to inclusivity and representation, say sources from IIT Kanpur.

Since its inception in 1961, the Inter IIT Sports Meet has been a cornerstone of the IIT tradition, fostering a culture of healthy competition and unity.

Workshop
IIT Kanpur turned cynosure of all eyes when its Department of Physics conducted three day workshop from 2 to 4 December 2024.
The event was held by Department of Physics in collaboration with Magnetic Society of India (MSI). The program was titled ‘School on Magnetism and Spintronics 2024.’
Event brought together over 100 aspiring researchers and students from across India, providing them with an unprecedented opportunity to explore the advanced realms of magnetism and spintronics.
The workshop featured a stellar lineup of 30 global experts who delivered 13 comprehensive tutorials and 17 insightful talks, exploring foundational concepts and the latest advancements in these dynamic fields, say sources from IIT Kanpur.
Commencement
The event commenced with a formal inauguration ceremony, blending academic tradition and scientific promise.
The traditional lamp-lighting ceremony was led by distinguished academic leaders Prof. Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava, Dean of Administration; Prof. Tapobrata Sarkar, Head of the Department of Physics; and Prof. Rohit Medwal, Convener of the workshop.
