IIT Guwahati announced its partnership with Airbus India Private Limited.

Partnership was formed following productive discussions with officials from the Assam Government’s Transport, Skill, and Industries Departments.

Agreement

A Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) has been signed between Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, and Mr. Rémi Maillard, President and Managing Director, Airbus India Private Limited.

Additionally, an Agreement has been finalized to implement this major initiative, say sources from IIT Guwahati.

This collaboration aligns with the Government of India’s UDAAN Scheme, which aims to foster development and socio-economic reforms across the country, say sources from IIT Guwahati.

Official Signing

The official signing of the agreement between IIT Guwahati and Airbus took place on 6 September 2024, at IIT Guwahati, in the esteemed presence of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam.

Other dignitaries included Dr. S. Ravi Kota, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Assam; Mr. Ashutosh Agrawal, Head, Aftermarket Strategy & Business Development, and Mr. Sumeet Singh Manglotra, Regional Business Leader – Airbus Beyond, Airbus India & South Asia, alongside Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, Dean, PRBR, IIT Guwahati, among others.

‘This partnership in aviation logistics and allied areas will not only promote knowledge sharing but also shape the future of the aviation industry.’

The collaboration will focus on key areas such as transportation, hospitality, skilling, and logistics—each with significant potential for growth, he said.

I assure the IIT family that students participating in these programs will receive adequate scholarships to help them excel in their pursuit of new careers, he said.

The Chief Minister further said in recent years, Assam has seen remarkable development in both education and industry. The introduction of the semiconductor industry by Tata Technologies is a prime example of this progress.

With this partnership with Airbus, we aim to explore further opportunities for collaboration to foster growth in the Northeast, he said.

I am confident that this cooperation between IIT Guwahati and the Government of Assam will continue to thrive, delivering impactful academic initiatives for the people of Assam and India, he said.

Global Skilling Center

Further to this initiative, IIT Guwahati will establish a Global Skilling Centre in Aviation and Logistics.

This center will address the critical shortage of skilled professionals in the logistics sector, which is essential for the growth of global trade and commerce.

It will provide comprehensive training and development programs to equip individuals with the skills necessary to meet industry demands, say sources from IIT Guwahati.

Growth Factor

Mr. Suraj Chettri, VP and Head of HR at Airbus India & South Asia, and Head of Site at Airbus India Private Limited, Bangalore, spoke on the collaboration with IIT Guwahati.

He said to drive the exponential growth of the aviation industry, both India and the world need large-scale, skilled human resources.

This is why we are committed to building strong partnerships with academia, and this collaboration is a prime example of that commitment, he said.

We will continue to invest in developing a skilled workforce in India, working closely with the Government of India and various state governments to unlock the full potential of the Indian aviation sector, he said.

Together, we aim to lay the foundation for sustainable growth and global leadership in aviation, he said.

Combined Expertise

The proposed partnership between IIT Guwahati and Airbus seeks to leverage combined expertise and resources to develop comprehensive programs that will advance aviation education and training in the northeastern region of India.

Under this collaboration, IIT Guwahati will organize courses, onboard students, and provide the necessary infrastructure and logistical support.

Initial Phase

In the initial phase, Airbus will supply trainers, training materials, and tools from the Airbus Beyond catalog for short-term courses.

Following this, Airbus will enable IIT Guwahati faculty to conduct ‘Train the Trainer’ programs, allowing them to independently deliver Airbus courses while maintaining the curriculum, materials, and tools.

Additionally, the partnership plans to co-curate long-term courses in the later phase, say sources from IIT Guwahati.

The entire program will be established at IIT Guwahati, with guidance and close coordination from the Government of Assam and all state governments in the northeastern region, aiming to target students across the northeastern and bordering states.

The Family Dispute Resolution Clinic (FDRC) recently celebrated its fourth foundation day at the Knowledge Park Police Station in Greater Noida. Established in partnership with Sharda University, the clinic has been instrumental in addressing family disputes through counseling and mediation, fostering reconciliation without the need for legal intervention.

As part of the Police Commissionerate System’s efforts to ensure women’s safety, The Family Dispute Resolution Clinic has emerged as a model initiative. The clinic operates twice weekly, offering a platform for families to resolve conflicts constructively. Distinguished attendees at the event included Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, Additional Commissioner Ajay Kumar, Sharda University Chancellor PK Gupta, and Vice Chancellor Dr. Sibaram Khara.

A Vision of Collaboration and Social Change

Chancellor PK Gupta highlighted the vital role of Sharda University’s psychology and law departments in the clinic’s operations. He emphasized the importance of societal welfare and announced plans to expand the clinic’s services to a full-week schedule. Gupta also lauded the work of Sharda University’s counseling center, which addresses similar issues and serves as an inspiration for other regions to adopt the FDRC model.

Strengthening Relationships through Understanding

Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh stressed the significance of preserving familial bonds. She explained that while breaking relationships is easy, maintaining them requires mutual understanding and effort. Singh praised the Family Dispute Resolution Clinic for prioritizing counseling over legal actions, a strategy that fosters long-term harmony. She also revealed that the state government is considering replicating this model across Uttar Pradesh to expand its impact.

Impressive Milestones 

According to Prof. (Dr.) Rhishikesh Dave, Dean of the School of Law at SU, the Family Dispute Resolution Clinic was founded four years ago to curb domestic conflicts among married couples. In 2024 alone, the clinic resolved 199 out of 210 cases, achieving a remarkable 95% success rate. This achievement highlights the clinic’s effectiveness in mitigating disputes and restoring peace within families.

The celebration also honored individuals who played a pivotal role in the clinic’s success. Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh and Chancellor PK Gupta recognized contributors such as Dr. Sanskriti Mishra, Dr. Avinash Kumar, Dr. Sachita Ray, Dr. Tarun Kumar Kaushik, Dr. Aksha Fatima, Sub-Inspector Lalita Chauhan, and Head Constable Anchal Saini for their dedication and impactful work.
