Airtel Africa Foundation announced the launch of the prestigious ‘Airtel Africa Fellowship Program’ for the undergraduate students at IIT Madras Zanzibar.

It is interesting to note that IIT Madras Zanzibar is the first-ever foreign campus established by an IIT. There is more to it than meets the eye.

Starting with an outlay of US$500,000, this program will benefit 10 undergraduate students, for their entire course duration of 4 years, say sources from Airtel Africa Foundation.

Vision

Airtel Africa Foundation was founded in 2004 with a vision to foster a prosperous Africa. Airtel Africa Foundation is dedicated to advancing digital and financial inclusion across the continent along with key focus on education and environmental protection.

It is designed to support students from 14 African countries, which are namely Nigeria, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania, Rwanda, DRC, Niger, Chad, Congo B, Gabon, Madagascar and Seychelles.

Recipients

Recipients of this scholarship by Airtel Africa Foundation will be known as ‘Airtel Africa Fellows’.

They will receive 100% of their college fees i.e. US$12,000 as per the course fee structure of the Institute for a 4-year program.

Additionally, to cover the living expense cost, US$500 will be given to all eligible students.

This initiative will aspire to transform, shape lives and nurture future leaders who will contribute to technological innovation and economic growth of Africa.

Path

Commenting on the fellowship scheme, Zanzibar’s Minister of Education and Vocational Training, H.E. Ms Lela Mohamed Mussa said, IITM Zanzibar is charting a wonderful path in technical education in the region.

Providing access to this high quality education to students from Tanzania and the rest of the continent, who are topping the IITM Zanzibar screening and test processes, through financial assistance, is an important priority for us, she said.

Revolutionizing Family Harmony Through Collaborative Efforts and Counseling Excellence

The Family Dispute Resolution Clinic (FDRC) recently celebrated its fourth foundation day at the Knowledge Park Police Station in Greater Noida. Established in partnership with Sharda University, the clinic has been instrumental in addressing family disputes through counseling and mediation, fostering reconciliation without the need for legal intervention.

As part of the Police Commissionerate System’s efforts to ensure women’s safety, The Family Dispute Resolution Clinic has emerged as a model initiative. The clinic operates twice weekly, offering a platform for families to resolve conflicts constructively. Distinguished attendees at the event included Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, Additional Commissioner Ajay Kumar, Sharda University Chancellor PK Gupta, and Vice Chancellor Dr. Sibaram Khara.

A Vision of Collaboration and Social Change

Chancellor PK Gupta highlighted the vital role of Sharda University’s psychology and law departments in the clinic’s operations. He emphasized the importance of societal welfare and announced plans to expand the clinic’s services to a full-week schedule. Gupta also lauded the work of Sharda University’s counseling center, which addresses similar issues and serves as an inspiration for other regions to adopt the FDRC model.

Strengthening Relationships through Understanding

Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh stressed the significance of preserving familial bonds. She explained that while breaking relationships is easy, maintaining them requires mutual understanding and effort. Singh praised the Family Dispute Resolution Clinic for prioritizing counseling over legal actions, a strategy that fosters long-term harmony. She also revealed that the state government is considering replicating this model across Uttar Pradesh to expand its impact.

Impressive Milestones 

According to Prof. (Dr.) Rhishikesh Dave, Dean of the School of Law at SU, the Family Dispute Resolution Clinic was founded four years ago to curb domestic conflicts among married couples. In 2024 alone, the clinic resolved 199 out of 210 cases, achieving a remarkable 95% success rate. This achievement highlights the clinic’s effectiveness in mitigating disputes and restoring peace within families.

The celebration also honored individuals who played a pivotal role in the clinic’s success. Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh and Chancellor PK Gupta recognized contributors such as Dr. Sanskriti Mishra, Dr. Avinash Kumar, Dr. Sachita Ray, Dr. Tarun Kumar Kaushik, Dr. Aksha Fatima, Sub-Inspector Lalita Chauhan, and Head Constable Anchal Saini for their dedication and impactful work.
