Govt. Model Engineering College (MEC), Thrikkakara was established in 1989. MEC is affiliated to the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) and is approved by AICTE. It was the first engineering college to be established by the Government of Kerala under the aegis of the Institute of Human Resource Development (IHRD). It has been featured 37th among the top 100 engineering colleges in India by Outlook magazine and 21st among the top 25 Govt. Engineering colleges in India by DataQuest. MEC offers 4undergraduate courses in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electronics & Biomedical Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering and 5 postgraduate courses, namely VLSI Design & Embedded systems, Image Processing, Signal Processing, Optoelectronics & Communication Systems, and Energy Management.
