TANCET 2027: MBA/MCA Pattern, Eligibility, Fee, Cut-offs

No TANCET 2027 date has been announced. Anna University's home page shows the TANCET 2026 schedule, so last cycle's dates are given for each stage. The counselling rows are the Directorate of Technical Education's tentative schedule for 2026-27.

The criteria below are from the TANCET 2026 information brochure; the 2027 brochure may change them. They decide who can sit the test. The admitting authority decides eligibility for admission, and the brochure says acceptance as a candidate for the test does not confer a right to admission.

• Engineering degrees obtained through distance or weekend mode are not eligible, except those validated by AICTE-UGC through the special examination ordered by the Supreme Court (order of 3 November 2017).
• A degree obtained without studying 10th Std., 12th Std. or a 3-year diploma is not eligible.

Eligibility for TN MBA/MCA counselling (2026-27)

• Only Indian nationals can apply, and you must have appeared in TANCET 2026 (MBA or MCA) and hold its mark sheet.
• Candidates who studied and passed in Tamil Nadu need no nativity certificate: from XI onwards for a 10+2+3-year degree, from XII onwards for B.E., B.Tech., B.Arch. or B.Pharm., and HSC or diploma plus degree for the diploma routes. Other-state candidates who passed these examinations in Tamil Nadu can apply too. The instructions list more routes: children of Central Government employees, All India Service Tamil Nadu cadre officers and public sector employees working in Tamil Nadu for five years, and Tamil Nadu natives who studied outside the state.
• Only Tamil Nadu native candidates are considered for communal reservation. Everyone else competes in Open Competition.
• Final-year students could apply if their examinations were due in April or May 2026, and had to show proof of passing at admission.
• There is no age limit for MBA or MCA admission.

TANCET 2026 used one paper for each programme, with 100 multiple-choice questions of four options each, for 100 marks, in 2 hours. The brochure says the questions are set at the undergraduate level. The 2027 pattern is not published, so the table is last cycle's.

Marking scheme

• Answer sheet: shade the box with a black ball point pen only. Sheets shaded in pencil are not evaluated. Fill the box fully so that the number inside disappears.
• Question books come in versions with a unique serial number. Write and shade the serial number on the answer sheet, because evaluation depends on it.
• Score: the score card shows only a percentile, calculated as (Y/N) x 100, where Y is the number of candidates who scored less than you and N is the number who appeared. It does not show raw marks.

MBA

• Business data and decisions: identifying data critically and applying it to business decisions in typical business situations.
• Reading comprehension: questions based on passages.
• Mathematics: problems at graduate level, including plus-two level.
• Data sufficiency: judging whether the given data is enough to answer a question, using mathematics and day-to-day facts.
• Written English: errors in usage, grammar, punctuation and similar.

MCA

• Quantitative ability.
• Analytical ability.
• Logical reasoning.
• Computer awareness.
• A few questions on verbal ability, basic science and similar topics.

TANCET itself gives no seat. The Directorate of Technical Education (Chennai) and the Directorate of Collegiate Education run a single-window online counselling, TN MBA/MCA Admissions, for seats in government and government-aided engineering and arts and science colleges, university departments and regional centres, and seats surrendered by self-financing colleges and stand-alone institutions. The counselling office is the Secretary, TN MBA/MCA Admissions, Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, and registration is on tn-mbamca.com. The details below are from the 2026-27 documents.

How candidates are ranked

• The merit list is prepared on TANCET marks alone.
• Ties are broken by, in order: the average percentage in the qualifying degree from the first semester or year up to the one before the last; the older date of birth; and the higher random number assigned by the authority.
• Seats are filled under seven categories in this proportion: Open Competition 31%, Backward Class 26.5%, Backward Class Muslims 3.5%, Most Backward Class and Denotified Communities 20%, Scheduled Caste 15%, Scheduled Caste (Arunthathiyars) 3% and Scheduled Tribes 1%.
• 5% of government-quota seats are reserved for differently abled candidates from Tamil Nadu, who need a District Medical Board certificate.
• All allotments are provisional until the original certificates are verified.

Steps

1. Register on tn-mbamca.com with your name as on the TANCET mark sheet, mobile number, email and your 8-digit TANCET registration number, and verify the OTP sent to your phone and email.
2. Fill in the personal, school or college and degree details, preview them and pay the registration fee online. You cannot go back and edit your details once payment starts.
3. Download the application PDF and upload scanned copies of the required certificates, then freeze the upload.
4. The authority verifies the certificates online and publishes the rank list. You get five days to raise grievances.
5. Differently abled candidates are counselled first, in person at Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. General counselling is online, in rank order: pay the initial deposit, fill and lock your college choices (3 days for MCA, 4 days for MBA), confirm the tentative allotment (2 days) and download the provisional allotment order.
6. After a tentative allotment you choose one of four options: Accept and Join, Accept and Upward, Decline and Upward, or Decline and Quit. Not confirming within the time loses the seat. Report to the college by the date in the allotment order.

Fees in the 2026 counselling

If you attend counselling but do not join, 80% of the initial deposit is refunded on request received by 31 December 2026. Payment gateways may add transaction charges, and the portal does not refund payments online; if you paid more than once, the refund is processed offline after counselling.

• SSLC and HSC mark sheets, or diploma certificate
• All semester or year mark sheets of the qualifying degree, both sides
• Provisional, degree or course completion certificate
• Permanent community certificate (card, electronic or digitally signed e-certificate) for ST, SC, SCA, MBC and DNC, BC and BCM candidates
• TANCET mark sheet and hall ticket
• Nativity certificate in electronic form, a District Medical Board certificate or a Sri Lankan Tamil refugee certificate, where they apply
• Photograph and signature

TN MBA/MCA Admissions publishes a TANCET mark cut off for each college and community from earlier counselling, as PDFs for several earlier years, including 2025. The tables below give a few entries from the 2025 files as the documents print them. A dash means the document shows no figure for that community. The documents do not define the term further, and the 2026 counselling cut offs are not published yet.
