The cutoff score is the minimum qualifying marks that candidates have to score to be eligible for the next process of admission. Score of the candidates in the exam has to be either greater to the cutoff score or equal to it to become eligible for taking part in the counselling which is the next stage in the admission.
Cutoff marks are usually announced along the release of the exam results. Sometimes the cutoff score can be released either before or after the result announcement. Candidates have to compare their score in the exam with the cutoff, if they find it either above the cutoff or equal to it, they can apply for counselling.
The cutoff marks are decided based on factors like difficulty level of the exam, number of seats, number of applicants, previous year cut offs, performance of students, number of seats available.
