The condition of eligibility is a pass in plus-two from a recognised educational institution. The age limit of the applicants must be atleast of 19 years. Candidates must be a citizen of India and can be residing in any state or union territory of India. More information is provided below in tabular format for the sake of the candidates:
Citizenship |
(i) a citizen of India, or (ii) a subject of Nepal, or (iii) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii) and (iii), above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. Certificate of eligibility will not, however, be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal. |
Age Limit |
The applicants must be atleast 16 years in minimum and 19 years at maximum. Only unmarried male/female candidates born not earlier than 02nd July, 2004 and not later than 1st July, 2007 are eligible. |
Educational Qualifications |
For Army Wing of National Defence Academy :—12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University. For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy :—12th Class pass with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent conducted by a State Education Board or a University. |

Students who are appearing for their plus-two exams or have appeared and are waiting for the results can also apply. They have to pass the exam by the time of SSB Interview and provide a proof for it. |
The exam will be conducted offline, where the answers for each question must be marked on a separate answer sheet provided at the test centre. The exam has two papers - Paper 1 and Paper 2. The time frame for answering questions is 2 hours 30 minutes for each paper or 150 minutes.
Paper 1 has questions related to maths which is taught at class 12 level in most of the recognized educational institutions located across the country. Paper 2 is also called General Aptitude Test (GAT) which has questions related to general sciences, general knowledge, history.
Format of questions is multiple choice where each question has more than one option, right one among that has to be marked to get marks. The total number of questions are 270 and total marks are 900. Paper 1 is for 300 marks and Paper 2 is for 600 marks. Candidates have to get good score in the exam to become eligible for next phase that is interview aka SSB Interview.
