Eligibility criteria for IIT JAM 2022

Educational qualification

Applicants must have passed a bachelors degree in science from a recognised institution located across India in subjects - GeologyBiotechnologyMathematicsMathematical StatisticsPhysicsChemistry, Economics. Applicants who have appeared for final exams in their qualifying degree and waiting for results or are about to appear for final exams can also apply. However, they have to pass the exam and produce a proof of it by the time of admission.

Qualifying degree pass marks

The applicants must be having at least 55% or 5.5 CGPA out of 10 if they are from General/OBC (NCL) categories and 50% or 5.0 CGPA if they are from SC/ST and PwD categories.

Nationality/Age limit

Applicants must be an Indian citizen and should be residing in any state or union territory of India. Even Foreign nationals can also apply. There is no age restriction

Exam pattern IIT JAM 2022

Exam was conducted in online mode as a computer based test and candidates had to answer questions related to biotechnology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, geology, mathematical statistics, economics had to be answered in three hours duration. The questions were in multiple choice format and total marks are 100 and total questions are 60. More information is provided below for the sake of the candidates in a tabular format below:

Marking scheme

There is a negative marking in Section A. For each wrong answer for 1 mark question, 1/3 mark will be deducted. On the other hand, for each wrong answer in two marks questions, 2/3 mark will be deducted. There is no negative marking for any questions left unanswered. There is no negative marking for questions in Section B and Section C.
