NEET (UG) 2027

NTA opens the NEET (UG) form with a public notice and an information bulletin on neet.nta.nic.in, the only place where it can be filled. The status box at the top of this page shows whether it is open. For reference, the 2026 form was open from 8 February to 8 March 2026 (till 9:00 pm), with fee payment until 11:50 pm on 8 March and a correction window from 10 to 12 March 2026.

How to apply

1. Register on neet.nta.nic.in with your own mobile number and email. The mobile number and email of a parent or guardian are also compulsory: NTA sends the confirmation page, the scanned OMR and the score card to both.
2. Fill in the form: personal and address details, identity details, APAAR ID, category, Class 10 and Class 12 details with the qualifying-exam code (01 if you are in Class 12), the medium of the question paper and three exam cities. Cities can be chosen only in the state of your permanent or present address.
3. Capture a live photograph and upload documents (table below).
4. Pay the fee online by card, net banking or UPI, and download the confirmation page.

After the fee is paid, the details are final. NTA changes them only in the fields it opens during the correction window, so check everything before paying. Choose the medium carefully: it cannot be changed later.

Application fee (2026)

Bank or gateway charges, if any, are extra. Choose OBC-NCL only if your caste is in the Central List of OBCs (National Commission for Backward Classes); otherwise apply as General.

Photograph, signature and documents to upload

Keep 6 to 8 passport-size colour photographs with a white background and one postcard-size (4 x 6 inch) photograph: you need them on exam day and at counselling.

NTA has not announced the NEET (UG) 2027 dates yet. Until it does, the 2026 cycle is the best guide to how the year runs. It had one unusual step: after the exam of 3 May 2026, NTA held a re-examination on 21 June 2026, refunded the exam fee and charged nothing for the re-exam. The result is from the re-examination.

Each of these dates came in a notice on the NTA or MCC website. For 2027, NTA's bulletin will give the form and exam dates, and the counselling bodies publish their schedules after the result.

NEET (UG) is a pen-and-paper (OMR) test in a single shift: 180 compulsory multiple-choice questions in 3 hours (180 minutes), for 720 marks. The 2026 exam ran from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

• Marking: +4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong one, 0 for an unanswered question.
• A question with more than one correct option: +4 to everyone who marked any correct option; if all options are correct, +4 to everyone who attempted it; if none is correct, or the question is dropped, +4 to every candidate.
• Languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. A regional-language paper is bilingual (with English), and the English version is final if a translation is unclear.
• Extra time: one hour for PwD/PwBD candidates with a physical limitation to write, whether or not they use a scribe.

The NEET (UG) syllabus is notified by the National Medical Commission (NMC). It covers Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany and Zoology), and the full unit-wise syllabus for 2026 is Appendix III of the information bulletin; it is also on the NMC website (nmc.org.in).

Read the syllabus printed in the 2027 bulletin when NTA releases it, and prepare from that version.

NTA first announces your exam city (the city intimation slip), so you can plan travel, and later releases the admit card with the centre, date and time. Both are downloaded from neet.nta.nic.in with your application number; nothing is sent by post and no duplicate admit card is given at the centre. If you cannot download it, or your photo or details are wrong on it, contact the NTA helpline (10:00 am to 5:00 pm) or neetug2026@nta.ac.in. NTA corrects the record later and you sit the exam with the admit card you downloaded.

What to bring

• The admit card with a passport-size photograph pasted on it.
• One more passport-size photograph for the attendance sheet.
• A valid original photo identity proof, and your PwBD certificate if applicable.
• One postcard-size (4 x 6 inch) colour photograph with a white background, pasted on the proforma that comes with the admit card.

What not to bring

Everyone is frisked with metal detectors. Not allowed inside: any paper or printed material, geometry or pencil box, pen, eraser, calculator, log table, phones and any electronic device, watches and health bands, wallets, belts, caps, goggles, handbags, jewellery or metal items, and food or water bottles. The centre has no place to keep your things.

Timing and dress

• In 2026 the gate closed at 1:30 pm for the 2:00 pm exam. Leave early.
• Light clothes are preferred: heavy clothes and long sleeves are not. Slippers or low-heeled sandals are preferred.
• In customary dress, reach by 12:30 pm; with articles of faith, at least two hours before the last entry time (11:30 am in 2026), so that frisking is done in time.
• Biometric checks, face authentication and videography may be used at entry.

After the exam NTA shows every candidate the scanned image of their OMR answer sheet and the responses its machines recorded, and publishes a provisional answer key. You can challenge both, online, within the dates in NTA's public notice.

The final answer key, after the challenges, is published before the result. There is no re-checking or re-evaluation of answer sheets after that: the OMR is machine-graded and the two challenge windows are the chance to correct it.

In 2026 NTA separated the two steps to save time: the provisional key came on 25 June with challenges till 28 June, and the OMR sheets were shown from 13 to 15 July, a day before the result.

Working out your score

Compare your recorded responses with the key: 4 marks for each correct answer, minus 1 for each wrong one. For example, 150 correct, 20 wrong and 10 left blank gives 150 x 4 − 20 = 580 out of 720.

NTA puts the result on neet.nta.nic.in and you download your score card; NTA also emails it to the candidate's and the parent's registered addresses. NTA also prepares the All India Rank (AIR) and sends the merit lists to MCC, AACCC and the states.

Qualifying percentile

To be eligible for admission you need marks at or above a percentile of the NEET result. The percentile is counted from the highest marks in the all-India merit list, so the marks it equals change every year.

If too few candidates in a category reach this level, the Central Government, with NMC and the other councils, may lower it for that year only. NTA publishes the cutoff marks for each category with the result.

When two candidates have the same marks

1. Higher marks in Biology (Botany and Zoology), then Chemistry, then Physics.
2. Then a smaller proportion of wrong answers to correct answers, in all subjects, then in Biology, Chemistry and Physics in turn.
3. If still tied, a random process overseen by an independent expert committee.

This is our reading of NTA's figures, not an official rank list, and it changes every year with the paper. The score that gets you a seat depends on the round, quota, category and college; the counselling bodies publish last year's opening and closing ranks.

NTA's work ends with the result. Seats are allotted by three kinds of counselling, each on its own website, and you register separately for each one you want:

How MCC counselling works

1. Register and pay the non-refundable fee and the refundable security deposit (table below).
2. Fill and lock choices of courses and colleges in order of preference.
3. Seat allotment result, then report to the college within the dates.
4. Rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and an online stray vacancy round. You can upgrade until Round 3.

New in 2026: after an allotment you choose Freeze (keep the seat and join it in person) or Float (keep the seat but try for a better one in the next round, with your documents verified online by the allotted college, without going there).

• The deposit is refunded only to the account it was paid from.
• You lose the deposit if you are allotted a seat in Round 2 or a later round and do not join, or if your admission is cancelled, for example for wrong information or missing documents.
• You cannot resign a seat joined in Round 3, and after joining in Round 3 you cannot take part in any further counselling.
• Register only once: more than one registration gets you debarred.
