NIT Trichy admits students to undergraduate courses in ten fields and graduate courses in 31 disciplines of science, engineering, and technology, as well as MS (by research) and PhD programs in all departments. Among all programs, BTech is NIT Trichy's flagship. Admission to NIT Trichy BTech and BArch degrees is based on JEE Main scores, followed by JoSAA counselling. Typically, JOSAA counselling for BTech and BArch admissions occurs in July. Check the NIT Trichy Cutoff.
NIT Trichy also provides courses in Engineering, Science, Architecture, and Management, including Integrated MTech, MSc, MS, MBA, and MCA. Admission to these programs is based on GATE, CAT, IIT JAM, and NIMCET scores, followed by a counselling process. Candidates from outside India are admitted to these programs through Direct Admission of Students from Abroad (DASA).
Aside from UG and PG degrees, NIT Trichy offers PhD programs in 14 departments across Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Management. The institute conducts a written test and a personal interview to select candidates for the PhD program. Applicants holding a valid JRF/NET score are exempted from taking the institute-based entrance exam.
NIT Trichy's campus covers 800 acres and is located on the Trichy-Tanjore national highway, approximately 17 kilometres from the Trichy railway junction. The NIT Trichy campus is divided into different buildings for each discipline.
The administrative wing of NIT Trichy, popularly known as NIT Tiruchirappalli's clock tower, holds the offices of the directors, deans, and other administrative personnel.

NIT Trichy offers 22 hostels for boys and 6 for girls, which can house 6966 undergraduate, graduate, and research students. According to the most recent reports, a new hostel is under development at the institute, increasing the overall housing capacity to 7472. These hostels are run by committees of elected student representatives and wardens. Each of these hostels has facilities such as intercom(s), aquaguards, televisions, and so on.
